Things I'm excited about as I get closer to my goal weight!

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm Kelsey! I'm 24 years old. I was sleeved on June 2, 2014. It's been a little over 3 months and I'm down 78 pounds!! I started at my heaviest at 319, and am down to 241. I don't think I've been below 250 in maybe 4 years. Getting this surgery was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I'm getting healthy. I'm getting happier. I'm getting so much more confident with myself. I used to think that getting WLS would be the easy way out. Boy was I WRONG!! I'm super excited for the things that I get to experience and enjoy in the future. These are the things I'm super excited about now, when I'm halfway to my goal weight!

1) My ring (size 8) that I have been wearing for the past 5 years on my ring finger, now fits comfortably on my pointer finger. (My -100 lb present to myself is going to be a new ring that fits my ring finger again, almost a size and a half smaller!!)

2) Going to Florida State Seminole football games this year. I could have gone before the weight loss, but now that I'm about 2 sizes smaller in clothing, I can easily find shirts and dresses to wear to the games! I haven't been able to buy official FSU football clothing in about 6 or 7 years!

3) I can make it through an 8 hour work day without needing to sit down every 2 hours due to back or knew pain. I work retail at a hotel gift shop and I can't sit down that often. So the fact that after 78 lbs I'm already feeling a difference is awesome!

4) I'm no longer at risk for developing diabetes. That was one of the main reasons I got the gastric sleeve surgery in the first place!

5) Guys are telling me I'm beautiful, sexy, hot, attractive, pretty, and good looking. That is something I have NEVER experienced. So I'm starting to date again for the first time in 5 years. (I'm actually talking to a really great guy that I met online now! Fingers crossed all goes well!!)

What is everyone else excited about as they go through this journey?

Another thing I'm super excited about is, since I live in Orlando and frequently go to the theme parks, I can get on and off the rides so much easier now! There were even some rides that I couldn't go on because they couldn't close the restraints enough to meet the safety restrictions. But now that I'm almost 80 pounds lighter, and about 2 sizes smaller, I don't have as much of an issue as before!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
