sarah92200 41 Posted September 6, 2014 So I'm 3 days out, just sipping Water , g2, sugar free popcicles , a bite of sf Jello , but that's it! I tried a few bites of Greek yogurt and that wasn't happening! My surgeon said just work on staying hydrated! Anyone have any words of wisdom? Is this normal ? Is this because I'm just 3 days out??? motherof5 364 Posted September 6, 2014 It will get better for you. I had a hard time as well. I just refilling my hospital mug and sipped sipped sipped. As far as the Protein Drinks, it was harder because they are thicker. But the nausea I had made it very difficult to tolerate the shakes.< /p>
Jz0917 21 Posted September 6, 2014 I am 11 days out and I ended up having to go to the ER twice because of dehydration. I was focusing on the Protein and not counting how much liquid I was taking in. I felt HORRIBLE! If you are not getting enough liquids in, see your surgeon. They are ok giving you IV liquids as often as you need them. Now that I am focusing more on trying to get 640z of liquid in as opposed to 60 grams of Protein, I feel much, much better. I am getting like 50 grams in and about 55-60 ounces of liquid in a day now. So my advice to you is focus on tracking your liquid and getting that in, even if you don't make your protein limit for the day. It will get easier to get those things down. And if you are having a hard time with thick Protein drinks, try making them with plain Water and adding a little more Water to thin it out. Helps to get it down and adds to your liquid intake. Good luck. Trust me, my first week was brutal. Now I am feeling much better.
