How many weeks did you take off?

Recommended Posts

Hey!

So, I took three weeks off, which for me is already stressing me out, because I maintain two jobs and I barely get by. One of the jobs is being a nanny and I am going back to that after a week, but the other one is a ward clerk for 12 hour shifts and I was just wondering if I was possible to go back after two weeks? How long did everyone take off and how much did they actually use?

Thanks!

I just had surgery on the 2nd. I'm planning to take 3 weeks. Although my job is sedentary, and I probably could go back in two weeks, I want to make sure I have any food issues worked out and that I'm comfortable with what I'm doing.

Best of luck to you.

Carol

I could have gone back at 2 if I had to, but I would have been pretty uncomfortable. Make sure you have some liquid Tylenol with you to sip on.

I actually just happened to get lucky, and for 6 weeks off.

I had my surgery on Aug 26/14, I'm 11 days post op, everything went well, I feel great, I feel like I can go back to work now, no pain, no nausea, I tolerated my fluids, my incisions are healed, I started walking on the treadmill, so far so good.. But I'm still going to take my 6 weeks, cause I work at a hospital, I work hard and long hours... Good luck everyone, I hope the journey is as smooth as mine.

I was sleeved on Aug 26 and returning Sept 10 exactly two weeks later. I'm doing extremely well. No complication. Good Fluid intake. No pain. I'm really excited to get back to my normal.

I took 10 days off but am going to extend to 14 days. I don't have strength back yet after one week post op today. If I had the money, I would take 3 to be safe. I as m praying for strength to come back this next week. They say everyone is different.

Good morning Paulm... I did my surgery the same day as you aug 26, just want to see how u doing... I'm doing great, so far I lost 36 pounds, but I find that I am stalling already, I haven't lost any in about a week now, and I find it hard to have 60 grams of Protein and Water taste bad.

I had bypass and took exactly a week off and am going back tomorrow. I feel fine and I don't see any issue going back but I have a sedentary job and sit on my ass all day. I'm not able to lift more than 10lbs so keep that in mind.

I took 2 weeks off. Luckily I only had a 3 day week when I got back to work and then a long weekend. I was ok after the first day back but was pretty wiped after the third day. I'm sure it will continue to get better!

4 weeks minimum. I'm a cna at a hospital and need to be able to lift more than 10 lbs and my surgeon won't give me clearance until at least then. My muscles still feel strained now at nearly 2 weeks post op, I'm hoping to feel better by the weekend.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
