feeling like such a failure. I cheated at only 2 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

Today was a really hard day. Im a teacher and this was my first week back at work. All of my coworkers went out to lunch and I went as well. They chose El Pollo Loco, ok not bad. Im only 2 weeks out so I got a small mashed potato (added some Protein powder). But watching them all eat the big salads or burritos and smelling the smells... oh my. I came home tonight and we were hanging out outside with my neighbors (we are all good friends) and they all were bringing their dinners out, Steak and salad, Thai take out, meatballs... omg. I was having a giant fit in my head. I went into my neighbors house and she made chocolate chip Cookies. I took one and ate half of it - chewed until practically liquid but I swallowed it. Half the cookie! I know in the grand scheme its not a big deal but now I feel like such a loser. I cant even make it 2 weeks after a SURGERY to not cheat!?

To top it off, my scale hasnt moved in days and today is my 2 week post op. I feel like I suck at this.

So half of a cookie won't derail your weight loss...

Here's my concern, you need to make sure you follow your doctor or NUT orders with regard to diet. At 2 weeks post-op your stomach is still healing - eating things off plan can hurt you and damage your sleeve. You need to take your post-op diet instructions seriously.

I did not address my emotional attachment to food prior to surgery - I wish I had. I had to address why I ate things like sweets or ate when I wasn't hungry while recovery from surgery. Why did you "have to have" that 1/2 of a cookie. Why couldn't you stop yourself? That is an issue you're going to have to address and correct.

Don't beat yourself up over the cookie - figure out why you couldn't pass it up in the first place.

Sending much love and encouragement your way!

Please forgive yourself for being human. I'm only 10 days out and had a really hard day yesterday. I cheated and ate a lot: half banana, avacado with lime, puréed chicken enchilada Soup (no purées yet) , inside of a date and 3 small bites of pizza. I can't blame myself, I was hungry but today I'm back on track.

Life happens and we are normal. Just remember to get back up.

Good luck

I'm 2 weeks post op as well and I've been cheating too! I have very very small portions of tuna, Soup, Beans, yogurt , pickles. I'm probably not getting the needed Protein but I hate the shakes. Don't beat yourself up everyone caves once In a while. Think long term though it's important to remember how you'll feel when your thin

Don't beat yourself up! It's a learning process. I had my surgery end of May. I was 309 pounds. Only a few months out and I'm 217 today. I made a few mistakes at first but then did my best to avoid what was bad for me. You can do it. Remember what is only a few months away. I have a much better sex life with my wife. all new clothing and confidence through the roof. It's worth it to stay strong!

It seems like the first few weeks is the most difficult to follow the food rules. Your stomach is all of the sudden small but our mind thinking about food takes longer to catch up. I ate this chicken Soup from our local Chinese restaurant. It was soft and comforting. I kept sugar free Jello pudding stocked in the fridge if I was needing something bad. It's easier now 8 months later.

I'm 2 weeks out and have been struggling too. Also feeling like poo about it. Obviously we're not alone, which makes me feel a little better. I guess I agree that it takes our minds a little longer to catch up. Don't beat yourself up about it anymore. I'm not going to either. Each day is a new opportunity for success.

I am so glad I found this topic! I am 10 days post op and I too have cheated. I felt like crap!!! But I have to remind myself that this is brand new and I went through too much to fail and that everyday is a new day. We are not alone. Just remember we all decided we needed this for yourself! I have to learn the best ways to use my tool!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
