1 year down, many to go!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I'm new to the site, just thought I would check it out! I had my sleeve done August 2013 in Mexico. I started out 235 wearing 14-16 pants and L-XL shirts, I currently weigh 125 wearing 2-4 pants. It has been an interesting journey to say the least, but one that I would not change- for anything! I would recommend it to anyone and everybody! :)

Everything is a breeze! The only issues I have is I can't eat/drink milk products, it hurts my stomach too much :-/ and my hair started to fall out some due to not being able to intake enough protein.. But Vitamins and shakes help a lot! Are you thinking of surgery or have you had it?

Welcome! thanks for your post. I'm having surgery October 17. It is very helpful to hear positive post like yours. It Reassures me that I can do it as well. I am 100% positive this is the right thing for me to do. But like most, I am getting a bit anxious as it gets closer.

congrats on your weight-loss!

I'm 3 months out from surgery. My big fear is gaining weight back. Glad to hear that you are maintaining well.

I totally understand your fears! That was me.. I'm going to spend this money, time, miss work, be in pain and what if it doesn't work? Or what if I gain all the weight back? My cousin had it done 3 yrs ago, and she helped me tremendously! You have to look at the surgery as a tool.. It's not a fix. You can't drink things carbonated, just stay away from bread/pasta, greasy foods are not good for you, and I can't have milk products (upsets my tummy!) you have to look at it as your eating to fuel your body. Eat your Protein and take your vitamins!!!! You will be just fine! When your full, your full. Don't keep eating, you'll throw up everywhere! Get used to not eating and drinking and not pooping a lot! :-/ I'm just being real! :) it's the best thing though, even though the first few months are rough! Hang in there!

I mean eating and drinking at the same time! It's one or the other! Oh and it's hard cause your full but your mouth wants to taste more.. But in time, it gets easier!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
