Finally. My sleeve surgery is Sept. 9th.

Recommended Posts

I did not know till the last minute if my surgery was going to happen. It is scheduled for Sept. 9th. I am so exhausted today.

Because of an abnormal EKG, slightly bradycardia, and the fact I am over sixty, just last week my PCP ordered an echocardigram and a stress test.

The echo was performed last week. The stress test was performed yesterday with a rush on it.

My doctor received the test this morning. The WLS office did not receive the results although the doctor faxed it. Also the PCP did not have the sign off sheet from the WLS's office that I KNOW I gave to them. A doctor has to sign a legal piece of paper stating it is OK for surgery to be performed, and this is the paperwork I KNOW the doctor's office had.

One hand did not know what the other was doing.

I asked the WLS office to fax that piece of paper to the doctor's office and stated I would pick up all the paperwork in person including the results of the stress test, the already faxed echo results. .

I then ran to the WLS office for my last pre-op appointment. Why can't some offices get their stuff together?

Anyway, it is all over, the last appoint with the WLS is over and the surgery is a go. I am way way way too tired to stress out over the surgery.

One last thing. The WLS surgeon is awesome. I know 2 people who had the VSG with her within the last week. HOWEVER, the first patient was scheduled for 8a.m.; the hospital and the doctor got their messages crossed and the surgery did not happen till 3p.m. The other patient's surgery was scheduled for 3p.m.; the doctor was backed up and her surgery was not performed till 1am the next morning. Always hurry up and wait. But she is an excellent surgeon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
