Sleeved and not felt "full"

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved Aug 26. I'm actually doing absolutely wonderful. But I feel off. I'm able to eat and drink a lot more then I expected. And I very rarely feel full. Anyone else have this issue? Any words of advice?

I'm doing well and measuring all my intake and not going over this amount but I'm just a little concerned that something is wrong.

Have you talked to your doc or NUT? That's my biggest fear, that I will still feel hungry all the time afterwards.

Are you on liquids or mushies at this stage? Everyone has a different post-op schedule so I'm not sure what consistency of food you are eating. If it is on the thinner side you may not get that "full" feeling until you reach the soft food stage or beyond. Hang in there!

I had said this in another thread, but I was sleeved August 22, and felt the same way you do. I even thought "Did the doctor even DO the surgery? I'm not feeling full" Once I started on purees, the full feeling came with a vengance! I ate one to many spoonfuls if refried Beans and was miserable for about 20 minutes! Liquids are liquids and they will go right through your little tummy. Be patient, and the full feeling will come once your tummy starts healing and you move onto more solid food :)

I think you are not supposed to feel "full" but satisfied. Sometimes its head hunger.

The more complex the food the fuller you will feel.

I'm on mushies but only introduce one or two things new per day. I usually eat cream of wheat in the morning but have to limit the amount I eat. I had a creamed egg and had to do the same thing. I can also drink Water with no issues. Sometimes I have to remind myself to sip slow. This just seems a little off. Thank you for helping me along this journey.

You will get more restriction as you advance stages. I remember at the soft phase I could not even finish half an egg. And when finally on solids, 2 bites of of chicken were all I could have. For some people the early phases do not have any restriction or not much but hopefully he appetite is greatly dismissed as well at that time.

You are not alone! I'm 10 days out and can eat not just a burger but the cow if they let me. I am sick of drinking Protein Shakes and I'm not sure how I'm going to survive the next week. IM HUNGRY!

10 days out you're eating a burger? Seems a little soon.

But yes I wasn't getting full feeling until I was into puréed foods stage.

eggs didn't really make me full

Yogurt goes thru and cottage cheese as well

Water doesn't make me feel full either and I am two months out n

I tend to get dense Protein in and can manage 2-3 ounces if it's fish 4-6 but I stop at 4

I feel your pain! I was sleeved aug 22nd and I've been cheating a bit and eating eggs and tuna but I'm always hungry. I try to tell myself that food is fuel but that doesn't always help! I hear it gets better so I'm trying to do my best to limit myself.

You need to be careful that you aren't overeating. The nerves in your stomach were cut during the surgery and can take a long time to heal before you get the feelings and sensations back.

I didn't get a full feeling on liquids either. It took me longer to drink the Protein Shakes but that is all. I started eating eggs I can only eat about 3/4 of a scrambled egg and almost two eggs white. I can eat about 3-4 ounces of a piece of fish. I don't eat until I am full I eat until I am satisfied because I do not want that pain feeling in my stomach and I definelty do not sent to puke. I have to stay off the scale. I don't like to watch it. It is depressing. I lost 56 pounds since May 31 to August 25th. I have lost about 12 pounds since surgery and I know it doesn't just fall off but for what I am eating and how much I exercise it should be coming off faster. I am losing inches although I did not do ore surgery measurements I can tell by the way my clothes fit (or don't fit). But I want to drop on the scale too! It's just depressing. I got on my Wii to weigh this morning and I have lost 16.5 pounds in 27 days, so that isn't bad but still brings me down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
