rdbest86 2 Posted September 5, 2014 So today was supposed to be my last PCP appt and then my doctor was supposed to send my paper work in for insurance approval. Well something told me to call my coordinator and let her know that everything was complete. She said I have bad news for u your surgeon is on a leave of absence and they don't know when he is coming back. My question is what can I do I was told u could wait for him to come back which they don't know when that is or I can find another surgeon I honestly am so hurt and disappointed
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted September 5, 2014 Get a complete copy of your medical records. By law, they have to give it to you. Find out who else or where else there is another facility that your insurance company will approve. Get a new surgeon as soon as possible before you lose steam. You can also ask if your insurance company provides case managers for patients who have an ongoing issue that will take time to resolve. I know that Blue Cross / Blue Shield does. You are worth the effort. I wish you good luck and good health.
terrydumont46 1,954 Posted September 5, 2014 there was only one surgeon in the practice? get a recommendation from your pcp. you won't have to start over. all your paperwork will be transferred. don't fret, this maybe the best for you because it would be even more distressing if you had the surgery with this doctor and than he disappeared on you. try and find a clinic. go online. go to seminars. and have your records transferred to your pcp. something is fishy and you don't want the office to close on you. good luck

gowalking 10,790 Posted September 5, 2014 I'm presuming since you are working with Methodist in Brooklyn, you are open to trying another practice not too far from you? If so, I was banded by the bariatric group out of NYU Langone. I've been very happy with the practice and the hospital. If you want further info, feel free to PM me. pions9815 11 Posted September 5, 2014 Try taking your records to another physician, a lady in my support group had to change hospitals/surgeons last minute and her insurance as well as our doc honored all the work she had done with the previous physician and she was able to have surgery within a few weeks of changing docs. Worth a try
rdbest86 2 Posted September 5, 2014 Thank you pions9815 I will definitely give this a try
HotButterFly 981 Posted September 6, 2014 Maimonides Hospital AND The Brooklyn Hospital BOTH have a bariatric program. They are both near Methodist. My cousin just had her VSG at Methodist.... What's the name of your surgeon??
HotButterFly 981 Posted September 6, 2014 Also, I will add that Bellevue Hospital threw a wrench in my surgery plans ONE WEEK before the day... The surgeon himself called Dr. Fielding and asked if she could take me... It was the best thing that happened to me.

SandyM 1,956 Posted September 7, 2014 You might consider this. I was told that if I didn't have my surgery right away after finishing my visits with my pcp, I should continue seeing my pcp monthly till I had the surgery otherwise I'd have to start all over.
