lose4life2 152 Posted September 4, 2014 Okay got the call for preauthorization from the hospital for my surgery. They informed me that the cardiologist ordered me to take Atenolol the day of surgery and 2 days after surgery. I am seriously afraid of that. I had perfect EKG, perfect ECHO, and my blood pressure is 120/70 on a good day maybe 110/60 even. Why do I need to take a beta blocker?? Is this common practice?? IM REALLY SCARED!!! I'm not sure if this has anything to do with your prescription, but beta blockers are sometimes used for anxiety
sophie'sChoice 269 Posted September 4, 2014 I would give their office a call or the NP and ask why they want you to take it. Is it part of their protocol or for some other reason? I would think an explanation is in order if for no other reason so make sure they didn't mix you up with someone else.
lose4life2 152 Posted September 4, 2014 I don't even have a prescription for it. Apparently cardiologist ordered it? I didn't ask for anxiety meds and have never ever taken them before. I put a call into the office. Thank God I have 19 days until my surgery so they can explain it to me. I will probably have anxiety by the time the surgery comes but not yet..... Got a call back and no real explanation other than in his opinion he thinks is safer for the surgery. That I could make an appt and go back in to discuss it with him for $350 a visit. I said well I'm think it's poor practice that after all my tests you didn't feel it necessary to inform me that was his plan and I had to learn from pre op nurse. Ultimately now I am to discuss it with the surgeon and the anesthesiologist. WHAT?!?!?!? I don't know what to even do now
