Kandis SupaStar Hill 39 Posted September 4, 2014 Hello everyone, My name is Kandis, I was sleeved last week Wednesday. I have a question, does anyone else find it easier to sip G2 or Apple juice over Water? Whenever I drink water I get spasms up the wazoo, but when I drink gator aid (g2) or apple juice etc... It's smooth sailing. I have my first follow-up on the tenth so I'm gonna ask the PA, but I was wondering if anyone else's has experienced this as well. Thanks, Kandis
Rogofulm 2,440 Posted September 4, 2014 Hi Kandis! Water, especially cold Water, can be hard to tolerate at first. I'm a big fan of Crystal Light (or generic) sugar-free, decaffeinated iced tea. I keep a two-quart jug at home and also at work and drink them all day long (but not within half an hour on either side of a meal). Just pour the packet in, add water, put the top back on and shake. It's quick and easy, because I'm lazy when it comes to food and drink preparation. The tea doesn't have carbs (like G2), or sugar (like apple juice), both of which can really slow down your weight loss. My doc said we should give up fruit juices for life. They are the fastest way to gain back the weight we've we've lost. So give the tea a shot. (They also make lemonade and other flavors.) And really, really try to get at least 64 oz. in every day. Otherwise you could get badly constipated (also involving the wazoo). Good luck! It gets better and better, and pretty soon you'll be feeling human again. Thinkingthinner1109 485 Posted September 4, 2014 I am not suppose to have any kind of juices because of the natural sugars. I can drink plain Water while I am working out or I add drops of flavor. I do know that G2 is permitted for me I just don't drink it right now.
Kandis SupaStar Hill 39 Posted September 4, 2014 @@Rogofulm It's room temp Water I don't like ice cold Water, never did. I will definitely try crystal light also. I've been doing half water half sugar free apple juice which seems too sweet still for some reason.
Kandis SupaStar Hill 39 Posted September 4, 2014 @ I wish Water didn't cause me to spasm so much I'm not a big fan of Gatorade, and all these sugar free drinks are starting to coat my tongue
sophie'sChoice 269 Posted September 4, 2014 Hi Kandis, I'm with you on the straight Water thing. I'm not sure why but I have heard several people talk about not being able to tolerate plain Water. I've heard several explanations including one regarding the surface tension of water being higher unless you add something to it etc etc. But as long as you stay hydrated it really doesn't matter. I drank G2 for a long time. Now I drink water with a squirt of the sugar free Kool-aid liquid in it. Helps me drink it down a lot faster than just the plain water. There are a number of the water additives. Maybe some of them might appeal to you more than what you are doing now? Good luck!
hillgirly 228 Posted September 4, 2014 Hi Kandis, when I was a week out, I found I could really only get down Water if it was room tempurature. I also did some G2, Crystal Light and diluted juice (which was allowed but I didn't care for). I ate a lot of jello! Now I seem to like my Water colder (and my stomach doesn't spasm with it). I've also developed a taste for Propel Zero, which I disliked pre-surgery. It's on sale a lot & is at Sam's Club and knowing I will get more water in is worth the cost at this point. I still have a hard time getting all my liquids in, but I keep trying. Good luck! It gets easier
Kandis SupaStar Hill 39 Posted September 4, 2014 Wow - thanks everyone for your input, I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem. I will look into all of your suggestions and different options, I just don't want hidden sugar slowing me down, although I'm drinking fluids within the plan and diluting whenever I can, I just don't want to be a self saboteur.
