August post op sleevers: Check in

Recommended Posts

Hi August Sleevers-

Everything's been going great--especially the past month. Weight loss has been steady, but is now picking up speed (strength training the past two months is really showing some major toning results, too). For me, it appears the "magic" combo is VSG surgery and Jazzercise!

Highest weight: 200

Surgery weight: 196 (August 13th)

Current weight: 130

Goal weight: 120

Congrats to everyone's progress!

Hi all! I am so impressed by everyone's progress and can't believe how wonderful this surgery has been for all (or most) of us. Every day I realize another small way that I feel better about myself. I'm actually going snowboarding this weekend after not being able to for four years because of my weight! Such a great feeling! Anyways, here's where I'm at:

Starting weight (Pre-op, not highest): 237

Day of surgery: 224

This morning: 174

Keep up the good work everyone!

Hi! I'm here too!

SW: 325 (8/7/14)

CW: ~266

I seem to be at a very frustrating plateau, it's lasted about 3 weeks now. Did anyone else stall around this point?

I've been working out about 4-5x per week. I started tracking calories on my fitness pal this week, and i seem to hover around 700-800 calories. Do you think I should up my intake a little bit?

I was sleeved August 27, 2014, and am now down 52 pounds...but I've been in a stall for almost 3 weeks. I think it's just all part of the process. I knew going in that this would be a slow process, not a quick fix, so while it is frustrating to see the scale stick to one place for a couple of weeks, I can see and feel the benefits in a higher energy level, in how my clothes fit (I'm down from a 24 to an 18), and how others can see that I've lost weight.

You're on the right path. And just remember, this too shall pass.

Does anyone else get tired of eating sometimes? With me eating like every two hours, sometimes I get tired of eating. I am starting to cut down on my serving size because of it.I need that Protein. That's why I make sure I have my shakes.

I honestly have not strayed from my surgeon and NUT's instructions regarding food and drink, I've not consumed any carbs other than some green veggies and some fruit (mostly bananas and apples), no sugar, no alcohol, no bread, etc., I take Vitamins, Omega 6 and calcium chews daily, I Jazzercise 5-6 times per week (including 2 strength training Jazzercise classes) and walk 5 miles 1-2 days per week. I snack mostly on turkey Jerky and WW string cheese.

So I had my 3 months post op last week, and I must say I am doing great. My doctor's scale measures lean muscles, body fat, fat mass etc. All the numbers are going down. I most impressed with my degree of obesity. It was 90.3% when I started this journey and now it is 51.6%. My visceral fat rating also went from 15 to 10! I am pleased I am getting healthy. I do not have an ideal goal weight. I am interested in BMI, Body fat, and building lean muscle. Oh...my goal is to be a size 10; however, because I have wide hips, I may settle with 12 for pants. I currently wear 14 in both dress & pants. So for the next 3 months, I will be doing strength training 3x a week, cardio 5x a week. My nut said to increase intake to 1000 calories. I am increasing fluids to 72oz and Protein to minimum 100g. Good luck to everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
