August post op sleevers: Check in

Recommended Posts

@@GenaH, it will get better. I weigh myself once a week just for the fun of it. I don't worry about the weight. I know it is difficult and we are anxious for the weight to fall off, but it will eventually fall off.

Sleeved 8/18/14. Stepped on scales Friday and was thrilled. I weighed in at 299. Its been 30 years since I have been under 300. Highest weight was 420 + so 299 looks amazing! Journey is not easy but is well worth it. Today was a true test as I attended my sons 30th birthday party which had lots of food, cake and a candy "bar" I had no desire to eat anything I shouldn't have. I take my lunch bag with me whenever I am away frim home more than 3 hours with the foods and drinks I can have. Things are going well. Thank you Jesus for the opportunity you have given me.

Checking in, fellow August sleevers. Sounds like everyone's finding their post-op VSG groove.

Also sounds like everyone has discovered that the Three Week Stall wasn't just an urban myth.

I'm 34 days post-op. Have lost 33 pounds total (pre- and post-op). I'm 2 pounds away from Onederland. :)

Only unusual part of my VSG resume is that on Day 28 post-op I had gall bladder surgery. Could've done without that, but c'est la vie, eh? But I had the same surgeon, same surgical team, same hospital. In and out of the hospital same day.

My Protein intake is going well. food experimentation is fine, even sometimes delicious. Last night we had Mexican takeout, and I had chicken fajitas (2 ounces of meat and 1 ounce of onions/peppers) slightly ground and 2 ounces of Rosarita no-fat traditional refried Beans and an ounce of cheddar cheese (melted). I even had a couple (no more) of tortilla chips. Was delish!

My Water is usually 8-16 ounces too low (REALLY got to fix that!). Walking the dog for 30 minutes a day is my typical exercise, but my exercise activities and variety will increase soon. Also, Miralax works for me when Constipation gets bad. My energy sort of waxes and wanes, but over the long haul it's getting better all the time.

So, other than the gall bladder surgery interruption, all's going well here.

Best to all.

Focus on your progress and stay positive! I think that helps.

Way to go everyone. This is such a blessing.

@@momma 1957= way to go

@vsgann= loving the groove

@mskeisha= I used the miralax and it worked well for me. I also had to thin out my Protein Shakes. They were way too thick for me.

Today makes 5 wks post op.... I have been nauseous all weekend and it has carried on today. With that happening I am having a hard time getting in my Protein and fluids... Anyone else having this problem??

I was nauseous all the time as well so I talked to my surgeon's nurse. She told me that it's possible my sense of smell has heightened and that's why I was nauseous. She suggested I put a bit of Vicks under my nose. It worked great.

@"GenaH", You are not doing anything wrong, you are awesome for having this done. You may want to check the calorie amount of your Protein Shakes, sometimes we consume more than our body can handle. The scale will move be patient and try not to weigh everyday do it every other week or once a month.

For all who have or are going through a stall - THANK YOU for sharing your stories. I am so frustrated. I was sleeved on 8/25 and have lost a total of 21 lbs since AND I have been stalled going on 3 weeks now. I keep thinking maybe my doc did not cut enough or maybe my stomach has stretched back out or maybe I'm doing something wrong. I guess I thought my weight loss should be greater by now but since reading everyone else who was sleeved around the same time, I guess I'm on track. I'm still frustrated and can't wait for this stall to be over...

Sleeved Aug 5. Ive lost 35 lbs since the surgery date. Feeling really good. Energy levels are through the roof. I've never had this much energy, that I can remember anyways. Hit a stall a few weeks ago and the weight loss has slowed down quite a bit since then. So glad to be on soft foods. Been working out and really enjoying all the positive changes goig on.

I finally started the Miralax power too and what a difference. I had been "clogged" up for 9 days. I wasn't uncomfortable until about the 8th day, but it just worried me. Started taking the Mirilax then and got the good old pipes cleared out two days later. Now I've been taking it every other day instead of Benefiber every day. Mirilax even has packets that you can carry to work or out to dinner.< /p>

Hi all I just finally bought the Walmart brand miralax hoping this works... Anyone have luck with this product? Loving my sleeve just taking it easy for now

I'm right with you. My surgery was on August 27. Since my pre-op diet and then the surgery, I've lost about 28 pounds, but am stuck right there. I've been reading all over the web about the "3-week stall" which maybe we both have. I'm just glad my close are loose, I dropped a size, and am feeling good. I'm sticking to my prescribed diet habits, except I don't think I'm getting enough Protein, so I started putting packets of unflavored protein in my morning yogurt. Maybe more protein will help star up the weight loss again.

Hi all, this site is great!! I had my surgery on August 25th. I am not going to lie, the first two weeks were horrible, I couldn't drink Water or my shakes, I couldn't take my Vitamins, I was weak and I was regretting my decision, I had to call the nurse because everything made me gag. After two weeks I was able to have one soft meal, which made the difference, I feel great, I've got my energy back, yesterday I went for a two mile walk and it was awesome. I am down 27 pounds since the surgery but now I am at a stall. Not losing hope feeling great!!

Hi all, sleeved 8/25. I've lost about 19lbs since surgery and I'm ok with that, but I think I'm at the stall. I'm better at gauging how much I can eat so that's a good thing. I think I am getting heart burn again (had it pre surgery). I go to the doctor 8/24 I hope he says I can do full exercise and no food restrictions. I was really surprised at how unprepared I was for the change in my ability to eat. It's one thing to be told, but the experience is another thing. Continued success to all. Michele

Here's a big protip for my August 2014 peeps:

One week ago, I had gallbladder surgery, which was four weeks VSG post-op. And here's my helpful advice:

NEVER, EVER have surgery when you're already constipated. The additional anesthesia and post-op pain meds will bind you up even worse.

I'm just now (a week later) getting this all sorted out.

Looking back, it all seems so obvious -- but I sure wasn't paying enough attention. Oh, well ... live and learn.

Good Morning,

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Just wanted to update I'm 7 weeks post op, I have lost a total of 37llbs since surgery. I feel wonderful , I stated doing the MyFitnessPal, this has truly helped me . I can count everything and make sure I'm getting what I need . I had been stuck on the same weight for about 2 weeks but that has passed and I'm so glad. I get to start working out now and I'm really excited about that. I'm really glad that I did the surgery, I know that first week I wondered if i had done the right thing, but I have no regrets now. So keep up the good work and stay positive. :-) Oh and I do have a question where does everyone get the body weight ticker? Would like to have that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
