Pre op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

I have to start my liquid diet now, even before I have a surgery date because I gained 3 pounds since April. I think mostly from quitting smoking. I have everything done, just an ultrasound because they found gallstones when they did my upper GI. I am really dreading it, but hopefully I can get through it.

I am waiting my doctor is sending my paperwork to get approval from the ins company, BCBS of Mass. Does anyone have experience with being denied because of a weight gain? Even just 3 pounds? Dr. Didn't seem to be too concerned, but I have to go to the nutritionist to start my liquid diet now, even before getting a surgery date, who she said could be November!! Don't think I can last that long on a liquid diet!!!

The liquid diet is crazy difficult. I felt overwhelmed by sweets (shakes) and we even thought about what it would be like to have baked potato shakes! haha

I remember reading on my paperwork if I gained more than 5lbs they would cancel. I thought that was awkward but I guess they have to start someplace.

Hang in there ;)

Thank you! I think part of the gain was because it was 3:30 in the afternoon and the beginning of my time of the month ( tmi) sorry! Will see what happens on Monday when I see the nutritionist.

If approved, I will be going to a hospital that is a Center of Excellence. I don't know if that is the reason, but my NUT said that nobody has been disapproved due to weight loss or gain.

With Aetna, if you gain one pound during the six month waiting period, you are denied. This was a policy change from earlier this year.

Each carrier has different rules.

I agree with ivoryangel. liquid diet was by far the most difficult part of my weight loss. However I found the hunger subsided more and more the longer I was on the liquid diet. First days are the hardest.

I remember threatening my surgeon before I went under the knife, that f I was hungry when I woke up, he would pay. Needless to say I wasn't. I wasn't for a few days in fact. Good luck with your surgery twinderful. It will change your life and you won't regret it.

@@twinderful I have BCBS of NC (not sure if the policies are similar) but I fluctuated between 297-303 durning my entire pre-op phase and I was still approved and quick. I was approved two days after submitting to the insurance company. I'm on the pre-op liquid diet now and I have to agree with the others. It is for sure difficult but as each day goes by, I can reassure you that it does get easier. I still have head hunger everyday but I am better able to fight it off today, day 7 of my pre-op diet, than I was on days one and two. I have 7 more to go and 8 til surgery.

@@iam_bLythe day 1 of liquid diet today! It is almost lunchtime and I am doing o.k. Typically between 10:30 and noon is my "Snacking time" I like the term Head Hunger. because I know know that is my issue! I just want to chew something, so I have a stick of gum in my mouth and that is helping I think.

We will see how the rest of the day goes.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
