I am with so many of you in that I don't want to go back! I guess having others watch my transformation could be embarrassing to me with comments and such. I plan on lap RNY so am really hoping I am not required to be off longer than 3 weeks, but am saving vacation time in case that does not happen. Are most of you having paid time off?

I have paid time off, but I'd have to save it for that. I just calculated today that if I saved all my time starting after this month, I'd have 23 paid days off. That's a little over a month, especially a month with a holiday...like April for patriots day here in Mass.

I am very familiar with abdominal surgery and I'm not a fool thinking I'd bounce back easily, besides the healing process, keep in mind you'll pretty much be starving. I'd say that's hard to feel anything but tired. However, that's where eating right and getting your Protein and fat in, so you have strength. You can make low fat choices, but you need fat for energy and also for your digestion system.

Also, I'll be close to 50 by the time I have surgery. after each major surgery I had in the past, I noticed it takes a bit longer to bounce back, I don't see this one being any different. I hope 4 weeks will be enough for me and I pray I'm not part of the 1% who have complications.

Unless my body demands otherwise, I'm planning on taking 3 weeks off. I'll only work 3 days a week when I return anyways.

Yes bills will get behind but my body is more important than bills. I live pay check to pay check too my long t we rm shirt term disability sent me money and I used my pto time as well. I know everyone may not have these. Im saying for your own sake take at least 4 weeks.

Look people you need morw than one or two weeks. Your body will let you know. Bills will be here when we are dead and gone. If you have insurance on your job fmla and short term disability or long term disability will pay you until you go back to work. For all the people who are going to have surgery give yourself 6 weeks cause you are going to need it and do exercise a little at a time to try and regain strength. Just a little cause you will be tired cause of the change your body has been through.

You are absolutely correct. This is my third week since surgery and you think you feel okay until you get out and start moving around. There is a whole new level of pain after week two. The tightness in your abdomen and several others. I will be off six weeks before returning to work.

I'm just taking a week off. I'm a paralegal so I sit at a desk all day. When I go back I'll leave early if I get too tired. I can take a nap during lunch if I need to.

My Dr said 1 week off of work, 2 weeks off the gym and 3 weeks until you are able to get in a bath, hot tub or pool.

My surgery looks like it will be late November. I am thinking two weeks but work from home for a couple of more weeks. Bigger question- I travel by plane often for work- how soon can I start jumping on planes?

I work from home. I'm taking Friday for surgery and the whole next week and weekend.

I took off 1 week over Christmas. I am a veterinary technician with a mobile vet practice and we were too busy for me to miss more than a few days work. Very active job......driving, standing, bending, squatting, and lifting all day. 10-12 hours no lunch break. I couldn't lift over 20 pounds for 3 weeks, but could do everything else just fine. Made sure to have plenty of liquids and Protein Shakes available.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
