What is your vitamin schedule?

Recommended Posts

I've got a list of Vitamin recommendations from the doctor but I feel like every day in the forums, I read new advice about when to take what and what interferes. I'm curious how you time/space out your various Vitamins and why.

I'm currently taking:

Multivitamin (2 full strength but read not to take them at the same time, plus instructions say to take with food. includes iron)

calcium chews (should be 1500, I'm taking 500 chews but read that only 500 can be absorbed at a time. also, must take 4 hours apart from iron)

omeprazole (read it's better at night on an empty stomach?)

Vitamin D, liquid

vitamin B12, sublingual

Am I missing any important conflicts, etc.? I feel like I won't be awake enough hours to space everything out properly.

agirlnamedfrankie,

Let me preface this by saying I wasn't cleared to take capsules until I was a month out. I know choking down the chewable Vitamins becomes onerous very quickly. I thought I was going to run out of time as well with taking the Iron 2 hours before Calcium etc. You have to keep doing it and after while it becomes a habit and it becomes easier. It takes time and practice to develop a habit.

I take two capsules of bariatric Multivitamins when I'm eating Breakfast. I take them right before I eat or with a ridiculously small sip of Water if I'm eating whole food. If I'm drinking a shake it's not a problem, I just swallow with the shake. I take my Iron with Water in the morning and then take calcium with lunch, dinner and in the evening.
For a very short period of time, I was taking my iron with orange juice---BIG mistake. Upset my sleeve and orange juice is full of sugar so I shouldn't be drinking it anyway.
Now I take it with only water or anything but acidic drinks.

I take my PPI (omeprazole) at night when I go to bed. My stomach is usually empty and I take it with a herbal sleep aid.

I take a pro-biotic with my lunch and dinner as well.

I do my best to get enough sleep and that is one reason I take the herbal sleep aid. It has melatonin in it, Valerian root, chamomile and I don't remember the other herbs in it. Sleepy time tea has a good mix of herbal sleeping aides.

Taking the Tumeric capsule that I take daily is also a little tricky. It is hard on the sleeve so I have to take it with food--again super small sip of water after eating. I take it for anti-inflammatory properties for my many joint problems.

I take fish oil tablets for my joints with just liquids--they don't seem to bother my sleeve.

I take a Biotin supplement, although I don't think it's doing much good, on an empty sleeve.

Getting the 64 ounces minimum is my 1st goal every day. Second is getting Protein in and Vitamins.< /p>

Working in exercise during the week is something I have to think about every day as far as scheduling a minimum of 3 good sessions per week and trying to get 4 in--- 5 times a week is optimal.

It will get easier with time and practice of good habits.

Blessings,

Kathleen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
