Meeting with the dietitian-concerns

Recommended Posts

I am going to be having my 3rd meeting with my dietician this week and i am so fearful i am not going to show a loss at this meeting, maybe even possibly a gain.Would my surgery be denied if this happens?

It depends on your insurance. Some require a weight loss prior to surgery; others use excess weight loss as a reason to deny surgery; and others encourage it, but don't really care. Talk to your bariatric coordinator to get some insight into your insurance company's requirements. Go to your nutritionist session, and then use that as incentive to get back on the horse. Good luck!

Every program is different, i didn't have those requirements.

I wish everybody could have "my team". The preop stuff was very hard, and they were so encouraging and told me the exact truth which is complying with eating "rules" is very hard when you are hungry, driven to eat 24/7 and it is not a predictor of long term success. I was very motivated, and post op my results showed that! (I lost over 160# and have been maintaining under goal and at a normal BMI). The fact that preop liver shrinking diet about killed me and was very very hard for me just goes to show that the surgery is the tool I need.

Good luck! do your best and be kind to yourself.

Honestly, I gained some weight at first and ended up around my starting weight. I was still approved.

thanks guys, i lost at the july session but i have my august session tomorrow. I've had a really stressful month and my period (sorry if TMI) so I think I will show a gain and I am terrified they are going to tell me. well that's it. I've been doing much better over the last week and a half and I am in the middle of a flare up with my fibromyalgia so working out has been a total bust which I know was the big variable last month.

It depends on your insurance. I gained weight on my "6 month monitored diet" required by insurance, but all they were interested in was the 6 months of documentation that I went, not in my results. If I'd lost weight, I'd have been just under a qualifying BMI for surgery so I was kind of stuck. I was submitted the day of my first consult with the surgeon and started then and there (AFTER insurance submission) applying myself to my new lifestyle. Lost the required 10 pounds prior to surgery, (and then some with time to spare). You'll have to see what your particular requirements are.

My program doesn't allow for any weight gain. I'm nervous everytime I go. They weigh and record it at every appointment, nutrition, support group, surgeon, psych etc so I have a system down. I weigh myself in same outfit same time of day so my scale matches dr scale. I go every week and check my weight on a kaiser scale at the health information center then I have them log it in so I'm never suprised when I get weighed in.

If I feel heavy I do all shakes for a day or two with extra Water and one low sodium meal at night it helps me a lot. By day two my tummy is flatter and I feel lighter. Clean food and a daily walk keeps me losing a little every week. Good luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
