I have my first doctors appointment Sept 19th to start the process to MAYBE get approved for surgery doing the 4 month diet exercise blah blah blah been there done that. Stressed out because my family supports me 100 percent but they including my amazing husband wants me to try a family attempt with diet and exercise with them and do a success jar for every pound lost you put a dollar in. who ever loses the most weight wins all the money. Yeah sounds like a great idea but what happens when the contest is over... same thing that happened to me in the past I don't keep it off I balloon up again! So with that being said I need advice! Do I do this with them to make them happy and possibly delay surgery because I know ill get big again or wait to talk to my doctor? The issue is idk if I'll even get approved for surgery yet? They aren't even sure if my insurance will cover it we have to do the process first they said submit it then see what they say? I'm so annoyed right now

Why can't you do both? Weight loss even with the surgery will not happen over night and it sounds like you're just getting started. I would take part in it and also keep moving forward with the process to get approval and a date.

#Jim What if I do lose weight and from what I've been told I'm right at the line of possibly not even being large enough to be approved? I'm scared if I do this with them I won't get approved. And the diet for me will be like all other diets temporary

You're embarking on a process that is so life changing that you will need all your energies on it from now going forward. It has to be for you and what you want and what you are committed to do. Now is the time to set boundaries about it with family. They cannot decide for you what you should or shouldn't do.

I had the dubious advantage in that my husband was not supportive, so I didn't even seek his approval or advice. My kids were supportive but again, this is my process and I knew the eating rules were different from what they were familiar with. I laid out what I had to do and even if they made suggestions I still did what my surgical team told me.

Here's what I think. Your post sounds like their interference is already irritating you. That's a sign to nip it in the bud. Figure out what your bariatric team's pre op eating protocol is and start it. If you feel the need to explain it to your family go ahead. But you don't have to. This is YOUR life, your body, your surgery, your decision. If they want to diet while you do your thing, God bless em. But keep the peanut gallery under control and out of your brain.

Keep coming here for support. You can do this!

Anther thing im annoyed with is my husband works with tons of workers there's a lady who really does need surgery help and her husband pushes her for it we now have pretty good insurance and I've pushed to learn everything I can about what they cover but hit dead ends. She's feeding her husband full of well the insurance won't cover this so he goes and tells my husband it won't because she said she already checked into it. So now my husband is explaining to me prepare for the worst hope for the best. He supports me but because of them he's losing support

That is certainly a different circumstance I didn't consider. Your profile is incomplete so I was unaware you were teetering on qualifying.

Not sure who your insurance company is but mine sent me the policy via email when I called them and asked for information. Even if your insurance company does not cover it doesn't necessarily mean you're done. All insurance companies have appeal processes. You can bypass your husbands mouthy co-workers wives by simply getting some documented proof for your husband to read over.

Just a thought...

I was covered under my insurance which is blue cross arena ppo , but check with your insurance & Doctor about what the requirements are , don't go by any one , find out for yourself ,I mean what may be covered for you may not cover others , Find out everything before You & ONLY You decide.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
