Birth control questions!

Recommended Posts

So I had my annual with my gyno this morning, and I wanted to get back on birth control since I'm feeling and looking good, so who knows when I'm having sex next!? (That is totally a joke! I don't plan on sleeping around, but I just started talking to a really nice guy and who knows where this is going!? So I just want to be ready for anything!).

I'm going back on the pill, which is what I was on before, but i don't know if it is going to have any affect on my stomach? Probably not, but I really don't want to chance it! I had been on the pill before to try and take care of my PCOS, which is the main reason I want to get back on it. Anyways!! Any input would help!! Thanks!!

Call your surgeon's office and ask them if you are ok to start taking it again. I'm sure if you are healed it should be no problem. The only issues I ever have with BC is the initial start back or change over to a new script the couple of weeks of hormonal rollercoaster, low levels of estrogen are a side effect of my PCOS so when there is a change my body is like whoa whoa whoa, but I think that the positives that it brings like the antibaby effects and helping the PCOS symptoms are worth a couple of weeks on a rollercoaster. =)

There should be no reason you can't take regular bc- it's generally only a concern immediately before and after surgery because sometimes it can contribute to blood clots. Since you are quite a bit out at this point, you should be fine.

And p.s.....it's totally ok to get some action and make that pill do it's birth controlling job. :) Enjoy your new body and maybe let someone else enjoy it too!

I know I have no business responding in the powder room but seeing as it is about birth control, it's a rather serious concern. I take several meds for a cardiac issue and after my sleeve I needed to have blood tests to determine if the doses were still providing proper treatment. The sleeve or any gastric surgery can change the way our bodies absorb pills and medications.

Just food for thought.......I'm outta here now......your can resume uninterrupted...... ;)

Thanks everyone! Yea my gyno said that she wants me back in 3 months just to make sure that it's not affecting my blood pressure. It's the same brand that I was on before, so I'm assuming I know how I'll react to it. But I actually have a checkup with my surgeon later today, so I'll bring it up!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
