Being only 19 years old and a month post op, I realize that there are a lot of things that I will not be able to do anymore.

Take shots on my 21st birthday, drink soda, enjoy a drink with my dinner, and others. Some of my friends that know were worried for me before the surgery because of these factors. And yes these are things I will not be able to do, but everything comes with a price. In my case, all the things that I gain from this surgery completely outweigh those that I am unable to do. I now can have more confidence in myself, have a smaller chance of developing heart problems, have a smaller chance of developing diabetes, be truly healthy for the first time since I was young, I can buy smaller clothes, I can buy clothes is sizes that don't have an X next to it, I can eventually wear a bathing suit comfortably, I can finally stop the excuses of why I haven't lost the weight, I can love my body, and I can stop feeling like I am wasting my "glory years" by being overweight. These are only a few of the things that I have and will gain from this surgery, and I could not be more content. For anyone who is on the fence about this surgery, yes there are disadvantages and life changes that need to be made, but it can also give you your life back. After years, I am finally going to love everything about myself, including my body.

Be SO GLAD you are "starting young"!!! I have been battling my weight for 25 years and now, at 54 years old, I'm about to have WLS. When I look back at photos of myself in my late twenties, thirties and forties, I wish I had considered this procedure earlier. Don't look back!!! Keep your mind focused on healthy living, eating well and exercising. My focus was too much on food........how I wish I had re-focused on enjoying life instead of obsessing over food and "drinks".......You will do great!!! Good luck!!!

Congrats on your decision to have the surgery and at such a young age. I wasted way too many years being unhappy and miserable.

Sure there are going to be some sacrifices, but you're going to get so much more out of life. When you're 21, you'll be able to enjoy an adult beverage...Just not a lot of adult beverages.

Best of luck to you - I admire you for taking matters into your own hands at such an early age!

I am 21 and had GBP surgery 3 months ago. I will tell you drinking or having a drink is the last thing on my mind. I rather have Water than be completely wasted or throwing up. Yes, it's in everyone's best interest not to drink soda, but I have substituted things like coffee with no sugar and no sugar Creamer and low sugar orange juice. I am just 3 months and a few days out and I have lost a total of almost 80 pounds so far! Don't let people or unhealthy old habits get in your way. I say, nothing taste better than being healthy.

StartingYoung, you have a great attitude and that will help you win the battle against this obesity. Just remember that you can live a normal life and eat normal foods, you just have to have boundaries and limitations. You can have a drink when you turn 21 but you probably shouldn't have more than one. Empty calories are never good for you. As far as colas....Once you have been away from them awhile you won't miss them. Colas have no redeeming qualities what so ever so don't spend one minute missing them. You will have a more enjoyable and healthier life and just think about how cute you will look in those small size clothes. Shopping will become a new fun past time for you. You will have a positive, beautiful and wonderful future. Good luck to you.

I am 20 years old i did the sleeve and i do drink. Its my college year. Dr said it was fine as long as i consume low calories drinks such as vodka Water or whiskey water. Ofcourse i dont have the same tolerance as before, i get tipsy faster but you can deff drink shots and alcohol. So far ive lost 55 lbs in 3 months and nothing bad has happened.

There is no reason you cant have a shot on your 21st Bday. Just dont make a habit of it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
