briefs199 337 Posted September 2, 2014 My husband just told me that he cannot get off the week I am scheduled to have surgery. Some rule about all vacation needs to be done by October 26th. The problem is that I have a vacation planned and paid for until October 15th. That won't give me enough time to do a pre op diet and have a week to recover. I am so frustrated. My husband has been totally unhelpful during this entire process and now he can't get off that week to help me. I feel so down right now like I just want to give up on this whole thing. How long would an approval last? It seems I may have to delay until January, over 4 months after my pre op requirements.
2muchfun 8,927 Posted September 2, 2014 I didn't really understand your time limits? You only need him to take and bring you back from surgery. I didn't need anyone the following days. Surely you have someone else who could bring you home after surgery? It would be good if he were there that day but after that it's not necessary to have someone 24/7. jmo
briefs199 337 Posted September 2, 2014 I was thinking that I would need help the few days. Is that wrong of me to think? I have 2 young kids. I don't think I could get the older one off to school in the am in then wait for my nanny to come but am I wrong to think I need more help than I will really need? 2muchfun 8,927 Posted September 3, 2014 Maybe not with kids. Depends on how old they are and how comfortable you are with them dressing and feeding themselves? And, you might have complications or be one of those who has a lot of pain and discomfort? Most patients are fine but you never know? But usually one or two days tops is all the help you would need. SandyM 1,956 Posted September 3, 2014 I had my surgery on Friday and was back at work on Monday. My husband took Friday to provide me transportation, but other than that I didn't really need him.
briefs199 337 Posted September 3, 2014 Interesting. Can people give me their experiences re how much help they needed post op?
JustWatchMe 7,117 Posted September 3, 2014 Little to none. My daughter drove me home. My husband wasn't involved. Don't lift or carry heavy stuff for a week. If your kids need lifting enlist a babysitter for a few days. Don't wait for him to help you. There is never a perfect time for WLS but you are worth it. gowalking 10,790 Posted September 3, 2014 Can you get someone else to help you? Another family member or a good friend? Don't derail your plans because you husband isn't able to work with your schedule. This is something you need to do for yourself and then hubby and kids will enjoy the benefits of your weight loss down the line a bit as you get healthier, and hopfully happier with your smaller body. briefs199 337 Posted September 3, 2014 Thanks guys. I was under the misimpression that I would need more help. I asked that my husband get the day of surgery off and then the day on the weekend he usually is working so I'm not alone with the kids.

When I started my process last sept 2013 I had to do 6 months then when that was thru I had to wait another 5 months for them to submit the paper work . Which was august 31st it took 20 days for an answer . My doc office that all that I went thru , nut visits, sleep study , ext. would be good up for 2 years so just ask ur doc office how long is ur stuff good for before u have to do it all over again? kayzoog 129 Posted September 8, 2014 I didn't need much help. I slept in a recliner, slept, got on the computer, and watched bad daytime TV for a week. But I didn't have little kids to take care of. If your hubby can handle the kids, or maybe the nanny can come earlier? You will most likely need some help with little ones, but not much for yourself. You are supposed to walk, but you are not supposed to lift anything. So keep that in mind.
