Hey!

It's not that bad. I wrote out a description of it on another thread, here it is. I just cut and pasted it here:

For those that are wondering what it's like for the sleep study;

You go to a special sleep study place in the evening, where they have hotel-like bedrooms with tv, bathroom etc.

At your normal bedtime the technician will come in and connect about 20 or more electrodes to your head, face and body. Then you will get into bed and go to sleep.

The technician will monitor you from another room while you sleep. At some point they might come in and ask you to try wearing a cpap if it seems obvious that you are having apnea.

The tech will wake you around 6am, come in and pull off all the electrodes and then you are free to go. The data from the study will be looked at by the doctor and later you will go to your doc to get the results.

It's not great but not that bad. Bear in mind that you will have to wash your hair the following morning because of the goo they use to put the electrodes on your head.

My husband's done a couple. You report there for your first study in the evening and bring your pj's. You then get hooked up to a bunch of cords that monitor you throughout the night. He said that the room at the hospital that did his study actually looked like a hotel room. He watched tv for awhile but fell asleep after an hour or so. They woke him up early in the morning and that was it. His doctor contacted him with his results a few days later. He ended up having to do a second sleep study because his doctor felt that he needed something called a VPap machine permanently due to his results. He was fitted for a VPap for the second study and monitored throughout the night. Hope this helps.

Side note- it was recommended to me to do a study also by my doctor but I honestly think the weight loss I've had so far has helped me considerably. My husband says that I barely snore anymore and once in awhile he used to hear me actually stop breathing, which really scared him, but he says I don't do that anymore either.

Good luck to you!

Oh I forgot to add they will also offer you a bedtime snack and something to drink too, in case you are worried.

woo woo gave you a great breakdown. That's exactly what mine was like.

I had a hard time sleeping though because I couldn't lay on my side like I usually do. However, it really wasn't that bad.

Good luck if you have it done!!

Mine was actually an at-home sleep study--I just had to sleep normally in my own bed with electrodes attached to my finger and a little flexible tube inserted into my nostrils. Then I just dropped everything off the next day.
