lindalue 70 Posted September 2, 2014 Hi I am scheduled for surgery sometime in October they wanted me to loose 7 pounds before then but I have lost more down to 196 right now and BMI at 33 don't go back to see Dr for 2 weeks Do you think they will decide not to do surgery. Should I stop dieting. I can loose weight just not keep it off. I really need this surgery for my health and at first the doctor wasn't sure he would do it because I am 67. So it's now or never I am getting worried.
jnfisher 31 Posted September 2, 2014 They should go from your initial weight. I was told that further weights up until my surgery don't really matter. They should not recalculate your BMI for any real reason besides just to record it.
docbree 199 Posted September 2, 2014 I agree with @jnfisher. My doctor's office said they go with initial BMI - and the more weight you lose - the better surgery will go. However, everyone's insurance is different - and if I were you, I'd check with my insurance regarding their policy On this just to give you peace of mind (I wouldn't rely only on the statements of the office staff).
