1 week post-op...are the changes I'm seeing normal?

Recommended Posts

Sleeved on 8/26/14 and actually feeling pretty good. Slight belly soreness (to be expected) but not any real pain. Off pain meds since day 5, and getting plenty of Protein Shakes in during the day, walking, and drinking Water and other hydrating liquids often.

What I just noticed yesterday and more so today is that my legs that normally have excess water and occasional pitting edema are empty. I mean I can see my shin bone! My feet and ankles are skinny and I can fit into sandals and shoes that before were very tight...now, my foot just slides in.

I have some soreness in my lower back, but mostly from my posture lately I think. Is this loss of water in my body normal? Anyone else notice this so soon. I was concerned about dehydration. But I am peeing regularly, drinking at least 48oz or more of water a day plus the shakes and don't have any symptoms of dehydration. I'm 13 lbs down since my day of surgery.. Is this stuff all normal??

Thanks for your info.

Great that you are not retaining Water. Unfortunately I was the complete opposite and had to be given a water pill. 6 weeks out I'm still on the water pill, ugh

NuLife4Coy,

Sounds like you are doing well. It is great that you aren't retaining Water. If your surgeon gave you a lot of IV fluids during surgery like mine did that could explain it. I had two IVs of saline. If you keep up your Fluid intake you shouldn't have to worry about dehydration. My daily requirement is 64 ounces. I do my best to hit that 64 mark and even go over. What helps is my doctor allows me to count anything that is caffeine and sugar free towards the 64 ounces. EVERY doctor is different in that aspect though.

Congratulations on that 13 pound loss! :)

Blessings,

Kathleen

Yes, I was sleeved the same day as you. I noticed the change about my left leg in the hospital. It was weird. It was always bigger than the right. I am off the pain meds too, I am only able to take about 2 0z of Protein Shakes at a time. I did tweek it to suit my taste buds. I am sipping sipping and sipping on the ater all day. I finally have energy now too, YaY! but I will probably take a little nap later anyway. I don't have a scale yet, good thing for me. I will have my my first post op appt on the 8th and will find out how much I lost then.

And yes, it is normal

Thank you for the info and reassurance. I was so surprised to see those changes so fast. Yes, dr. Gave me a ton of IV fluids in the hospital. One in pre-op into OR, and at least two while there overnight. I started getting Water to sip that evening. I had my first 4oz Protein shake at 730am the next day. My dr. Also let's me count any non caffeinated no sugar liquids as hydrating liquids. So broth, and herbal teas all count.

Thanks again.

My situation was almost just like yours with the Fluid loss. A lot of this is reduced sodium intake as well. You are hydrating your body normally now so it doesn't feel the need to cling to everything you put in it. Pee on sister.

I'm pre op 7 days and all leg & ankle swelling gone also. I was curious if I may be dehydrated also. I did get a lot of fluids in the hospital & I am doing good with fluids at home. Reading all of these posts puts me at ease. I get the feeling we all will have to get accustomed to hearing good news in regards to our health!!!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
