Looking for info on Utah Doctors

Recommended Posts

I'm considering lapband and GBY in Utah and I'd like to hear from people who have had the surgery done by a Utah doc. I'd like to be able to ask questions to help me choose the right one.

Thank so much!

I live in utah, got the band in 11/06. i saw dr hansen in Sandy. He was great. there are two dr's in his practice there is dr hansen and dr alldredge. I didn't meet dr alldredge. But Dr hansen and his staff are great. All of the nurses in the office also have the lapband so they really know what you are going through. They have a website it is svsurgical.com if you have any other questions about him, let me know i am happy to answer any for you.

Do how many fills have you had to get the 30 lb weight loss? I have nearly 130 lbs to lose and I'm not certain if I'll be losing fast enough with the lapband rather then the GBY.

well, i think i have had 4 or 5 fills. Right now I am kind of in a rut not loosing very much right now. I know a coworker who had GB done 2 months ago and has lost 45 pounds, but I thought that was kind of a lot of weight to loose in such a short amount of time, so it's not too healthy. I to need to loose a lot of weight. I started at 355 and would like to get to 180, but i would be happy with 220.

Just wondered if there is anyone current on here that was recently banded in Utah? I'm going with either Dr. Hansen or Dr. Alldredge. I had planned on south valley surgical until I found out Dr. Hansen had moved into his own practice so now I might just go with him and I think his is called Cedar something. Anyone with opinions? I've done my paperwork through both and just waiting to hear if I'm approved and then hoping for a June surgery date. Anyone out there from Utah? I'm also quite interested in pricing for fills, etc. after the first year. I'd love some Utah info. Thanks in advance!

I'm scheduled for the end of the month. Dr. Hansen also has a yearly fee you can do instead of the per-visit and if I remember right it was $300 or so. I have been to several different seminars but I liked him the best.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
