crystaleffexx 18 Posted September 1, 2014 Hello everyone I have had gallstones which caused a horrible case of pancreatitis and I had to have my gall bladder removed has anyone else experienced this? I was completely healthy before I got banded and my friend that recommended me get a lap band is also having these issues I'm just wondering how many others experience this. Pancreatitis is the worst thing I have ever experienced and if I would have known this was going to happen I would have never got banded

bamamom911 26 Posted September 5, 2014 I had to have my gallbladder removed 6 months after being banded. I heard a lot of ppl with wls have probs with their gallbladder. No probs with pancreatitis though.
Jack 855 Posted September 8, 2014 Personally I've never seen a direct link unequivocally established by actual medical research, although Lord knows there are plenty of reports overlooked, outdated or in error. I for one had pancreatitis about 15 years prior to Banding which seems related to the diabetes that developed soon thereafter........; had stones then; have stones now. Lots of potential venues affecting stones/pancreas.
Spooky Little Gurl 7 Posted September 21, 2014 I shut my gallbladder down a year before my surgery while on a liquid diet. I had a bile leak and pancreatitis afterward. I also produced gallstones 4 years later and needed an ERCP. I didn't realize gallstones could be made after a removal, I guess it's rare, lucky me. Try and be patient with your healing body. I was fatigued for a few months afterward. Good luck with your recovery. <

JustWatchMe 7,117 Posted September 22, 2014 A friend of mine lost weight rapidly without WLS. She had her gallbladder removed the year of that big loss.
crystaleffexx 18 Posted December 11, 2014 I guess what I don't understand is why my surgeon did not say to me "if you have any problems please get it checked out immediately" I was not educated on the side effects at all. Therefore I thought my gall stones where just pain due to something being stuck in my band so I didn't get it check out. Had I known gall stones where common after WLS it might have had a different outcome
Jack 855 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) I had gall stones long before banding; I still have stones along with my gall bladder. Surgery is a common Tx for certain level and Hx of gall stones independent of Banding. Personally I've had episodes of what used to be called "biliary colic" every few years: swelling, inflammation and pain in R side resulting from or productive of more gall bladder issues. There's a host of non-medical treatment of such conditions, some of which are highly effective on some people. When I was in practice I helped considerable number of patients, self included, following strict dietary procedures. I'm of the opinion we were not born with extra organs that should be casually removed unless all other options have failed to remedy certain symptoms. Given outright organ pathology, rather than mere periodic treatable functional abnormality, options become more constricted.
