My port feels slanted, doesn't feel flat under my skin.

Recommended Posts

Went to get my second fill last week, my surgery was July 18. My first fill was done with fluoroscopy with no problem, the second attempt was done manually at a different location with out fluoroscopy, the NP couldn't access the center of my port, she said it was tilted because of swelling, have anyone else experienced this. I will be going back on Wednesday for a fill with fluoroscopy. Now I'm afraid something is wrong.

My port is flipped but still accessible. It takes some manipulation to get my fills. An experienced nurse was able to get at it after another nurse had failed. I think it really depends on how comfortable the nurse is with moving the port around. My port sticks out (looks sideways ) when I lay down. Don't give up. Ask your clinic for a nurse who is experienced with difficult to reach ports.

I found out my port was tilted on the first fill. The NP was able to give me a fill both times I've been in. I have no idea how it tilted. I do not know what it means to have a tilted port, since I am still new to this. It doesn't seem to be a problem though. The tilted port was discovered during an x-ray when the NP couldn't locate it on my first fill.

My port is tiltled a little, but the surgeon said that there is no problem because the band is in the proper position. He has alittle problem, but since he knows what angle it is at, he is okay about it. (He is the only one that fills me, now)

It is tricky when the port is tilted to get a fill. today I went in for my 3rd fill and another NP was there and had no problems giving my fill. The NP said as I lose more weight, the port may tilt back? Is there an x-ray tech on site where you go get your fills? There's one on Monday and Thursday where I go so I always make sure to schedule my appts on those days, in case I need an xray to locate my port. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
