Hey everyone! Just wondering... Do y'all ever go on liquids and if so for what reasons?

I had my lap band surgery April 2013.. Been experiencing some heartburn and was thinking maybe I should go on warm liquids for a few days. I had some allergy issues and probably irritated my band.

Just wondering what do y'all do when heartburn has kicked in and if y'all go on liquids for any other reasons

About once a year I do the 5 day pouch test to make sure all the plumbing is in working order. Other than that, no. I do fast 3 days a week from dinner on a Sunday night and don't eat anything till about 2 pm on Monday and then it's a Protein shake followed at 6 pm with a regular dinner. I repeat this for Wednesday and Friday. It's a form of interval fasting. Not true fasting but no food from one dinner till a late liquid lunch(shake) the following day and then a regular dinner at 6 pm.

It's a form of the 5:2 interval fasting diet.

I haven't had heart burn , since surgery because they also did a hiatal hernia repair when I got banded , however if I feel I need to go on liquids for a couple of days just to get things back on track I do , but if your having heartburn , I would call my Doctor , just to make sure everything was or is ok , that is just me .

I am on a little "back to basics" beginning today, as a matter of fact. August was a slew of special occasions and I feel like I need to do all-liquids for a few days as a way to get myself back on track. And, like you, I've been experiencing some allergy issues. I fast to clear out my system and jump start a new period of weight loss. Making some ginger tea right now; that works well for me. Also cranberry and aloe. I will be doing a lot of noticing in my body so I can get back to listening to my band and not just eating when food is in front of me. Even though I was only having very small portions, the social eating is an old pattern. What I'm looking for is my body telling me when it's hungry and then having an appropriate portion of food and getting the signal for satiety. I know I can get that back in a day or two, which is just great.

Can't hurt, why not give it a shot?....do it for yourself and see if you can tell - feel any benefits for yourself....if anything has changed...

I have my reasons, and get the desired results. I can also pretty much tell when I need to. But everyone needs to get to know their band, and how to "Listen to it"

Thanks everyone

The only reason I don't run to get checked out is because it's not constant... Which makes me think it's my allergies and it probably irritated my band.. But I did make an appt for the 11th just to be safe...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
