Question- Help

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I was banded on Sept. 17, about 3 1/2 weeks post op. I am a nurse, and I had an xray done where I work the other nite, cuz I wanted to see my band and I was having some major feelings of fullness in my stomach, felt like gas, with pain in my back too. The xray showed my stomach is full of gas, the pouch is empty though. I wondered what was causing this??? I have been eating a lot of Beans, which I am sure may be contributing, but not this much. I am taking gas ex since yesterday, and still not much relief. Has anyone else experienced this, after being this far out of surgery? I am wondering if my stomach is just not ready for regular food yet or what? It didn't start until I started eating regular food. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you. And good luck to everyone. Hugzzzzzzz Keep up the good work everyone!!!

Jodie

Did your doc give you a post op diet to be on? At this point I was just on mushy foods after being on liquids for 2 weeks. I know everyone has different diets from different docs but you are still in the healing stage.

Yes I had a post op diet. But the first week was liquids, second week, mushy, 3 week, introducing regular foods, 4th week, create my own preferences. I have done very well thus far, walking 2 1/2 miles now and haven't missed a day. This is new for me. I am not going to eat any more Beans for awhile............ and no onions, or anything that might cause gas and see what happens. Thanks for the reply............... any advise is great news.............. Take care and Hugz to you.

Hi, Jodie, I found the Mylicon Infant Gas Relief Drops worked better than the Gas-X. Walmart has a cheaper generic version. Beans are a major gas maker. You are a fairly new Bandster, so please be careful with your diet. Follow YOUR drs. orders. (They all say something different.) Are you getting your daily Water intake in (but not with meals)? Are you trying to walk as much as possible? That is about the best way to get that gas moved out of your system. Are you having regular bowel movements? Constipation can cause problems with digestion and your gastric tract. Best of luck to you!:D

Hey New Hope, thank you for the reply, Yes I am drinking my Water (between meals of course) and I am walking a great deal. Say NO to beans......... hehe I will try the those drops...... I will do anything at this point. I think I am making good food choices, been eating healthy........... just was trying to make sure I got my Protein requirements in with the Beans. I am going to try and make some changes and see what happens. Thank you again, and Keep up the good work you are doing. Hugz to you.

I had excessive gas for a long time after surgery. I even ate some cream of broccoli Soup 3 weeks out and called my doctor because the pain was so bad. Then it passed. Oops! :D

It does get better, though. Hope you are feeling better soon. :)

I'm a year out from surgery and I have incredible gas. In fact, that is often what stops me from eating more rather than the sensations of fullness. It causes pain in my chest and back. I burp like crazy after every meal. I guess I'll try the Mylicon, too.

I do not know how it is for the rest of the women and men here on this board..but for me I can honestly say that I have more gas then I have ever had in my entire life and I'm 6 months post op. I think the gas is something for me that goes along hand in hand with having my band. Weird thing is I do not burp anymore it just comes out the other end :)

I have weird pings and pangs al lthe time in my tummy and I have called my doc and he has told me it is most likely gas and he is right so now I just go with the flow. I take Maloxx when needed but for the most part it passes on it's own and it does not matter what kind of food I eat..I still have gas

I thought it was just me and my body, but I have major gas esp. when I eat. It dos'nt matter what I eat I know i'm gonna need to burp. Sometimes the gas and food compete with each other and the result is PAIN. So, I usually eat 2 bites and rest till some air escapes then I eat a couple more bites...you get the picture?

I like the simethicone idea. Thanks Marie!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
