Eating Habits 1 week out

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I was sleeved Aug 22nd and was curious if everyone is following their NUT plan to the T. I'm having a hard time with the Soups and broths, and have been eating some mashed potatoes and some eggs and cheese sticks. I do chew it like a million times before swallowing , my stomach seems to be alright. I'm losing weight which is awesome (down 19lbs since Aug22nd) but I want to be sure I'm not screwing this process up.

Thanks in advance everyone!

Nicholas: I'm having trouble with the broth because it tastes different than I remembered. I used to love chicken broth. Now it tastes different. Everything tastes hot and spicy.

I was sleeved the same day as you were. Per my doctors orders, I am still doing the full liquid diet. At this point I have found a groove of Premier Protein shakes and cream Soups either with enough Protein or protein added to them. To combat the boredom, I am spending a little more money and getting "deli" quality soups like Tomato bisque, lobster bisque, broccoli cheese etc...if they are a little chunky I am running them through my bullet with a little milk. Personally, I will wait until my surgeon okays my next phase until I venture onto anything other than full liquids. Good job on your weight loss! :)

I'm doing the pure clear liquid diet. I'm only on Day 3, so I know I can hang on. I hung on for the Protein drinks. I'll just keep hopping on here and complaining. My incisions make it difficult to stand up and sit down. It's hard to get out of bed, but I need to pee every 30 minutes.

I had surgery on Jan 28th. Liquids for 2 wks. Then 2 weeks puréed. Then 2 wks soft. This is the miracle operation. I am living proof. As bad as it is in the first couple weeks it's not worth messing up the size of your stomach. You could stretch it. Drink!!!!! Drink pill cups worth all the time!!! You won't regret ignoring food for a while. I went from 252 to 148 in 7 months. Life changing!!!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
