Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Anyone else having trouble eating post-op with others that don't?

Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart for your suggestions and the quick kick in the pants. Everyone is right ... I made the commitment, not them. This was my choice, not theirs. Beginning today I will eat with my family at dinner and enjoy myself. I've missed talking with them at the table. I seem to be in a mind-set of seeing all the things that I can't have (which get me here) instead of seeing all the things on the horizon ... shopping in regular stores, being able to climb stairs, have stamina, not feel like everyone is watching me and laughing. I want to fly a kite! I want to do a 5k with my son. I WANT TO FEEL GOOD!!!

Needed this to readjust my outlook. I was looking back instead of forward. Shame on me!

I have this mental picture in my head of a Roman-looking soldier holding a banner (always loved those short skirts ;) ) with the Bariatric Pal symbol and singing, "Onward weigh-loss soldiers, marching on to war..." This is a war, against old habits, old mental and emotional reasons that caused us the make the choices we did.

Also, thank you for reminding me that the glass is half-full...

You guys are awesome!!

On labor day I went to a friend's house gir dinner. I was 6 week out. A lady I did not know, looked at my plate that had about 3 tablespoons of soft food. She rudely asked"is that all

you're eating?" I nodded and did not verbally respond. She stood for a few seconds as if waiting for further explanation, when I didn't provide one she moved on. There were a lot of people there. I could of put a lot more food on my plate, messed over it and thrown it out. But that would be selfish of me. My friend spent alot of time and money on her dinner. I have to admit the few times I've had to eat around friends has caused me some anxiety. I have told absolutely no one about my surgery! I was invited to a dinner this past Friday. The host sent a text canceling two days before. It was the best text I ever received. I wish I could just avoid social eating situations for the next few months. I know that's no possible.

Since starting on soft food after returning from the hospital (severe uti and dehydration), I have been eating with the family again. It's been nice and now my sister is joining the healthy kick! Next stop - cooking again! She and I joined a gym today and I am so excited to get started ... i'm riding a high! Can't wait to see my therapist tomorrow; he will be sooo pleased.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
