Burping and fullness

Recommended Posts

I am almost three weeks post-op and on the soft/pureed phase foods. For the past three or four days I've noticed that after eating, I have constant burps that last almost thirty minutes. I feel better after burping, but wonder if this is normal for folks? I find it such an adjustment that I can only eat about 4 tablespoons of food (tonight it was refried beans) and I feel as full as Thanksgiving--almost miserable, actually. I wonder if I'm eating too fast?

Thoughts . . .

It's normal. I was told two things when comes to hiccups. One is to slow down a bit more. Even when I took the amount of time it was specified it still happened. And second it's a sign that you are full. Another sign of fullness is that your nose may run. Yucky. I hated that at the stage you are now. LOL

But yep. All normal.

For some time after surgery your stomach is swollen. The upper part of your new stomach is very narrow due to the swelling so when you eat it has to squeeze through it and pushes the air down to the pouch so you need to burp to get the air out to allow food in. In time the swelling will go down and the burping will be less. although I dont think it will ever go away completely. I try and get air out after each bite. That way it doesnt all come out at once as a loud belch.
