beachgal2935 596 Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) Question ladies ... Why did you choose to be sleeved over having the bypass??? I need to know because I'm still struggling with this decision. Thank you Edited November 25, 2014 by beachgal2935
Queen of Crop 1,104 Posted November 25, 2014 HI beachgal.....for me, I was looking into the lap band and after a bit of research found that it was not that effective; and my surgeon said at my age it wasn't a good choice to have something forgien in your body. But the gastric bypass seemed way too invasive for me. I could get my head around having part of my stomach removed; that made complete sense to me and was a much easier surgery to have and to recover from. I think that the bypass is most effectiv for peoplw who are much heavier and have a lot more weight to lose; and they lose faster. But there are side effects and I think medications that you must take forever. Your stats are very similar to mine and personally (I'm no doctor obviously) I think the sleeve would work just fine for you. Good luck!
Grandma2tweeties 108 Posted November 25, 2014 I absolutely agree with Queen of the crop. My decision was easy. I knew I didn't the lap band. Didn't like the idea of fills and possible problems with foreign object. I also thought removing part of my stomach seemed less scary for me then re routing my intestines. Some may not understand that but it's just how I felt. Also more freedom of food choices for the future me. Good luck I'm sure you'll decide with your dr what's best for you! SimplySue 131 Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) I had surgery 10/9/14 @ highland hospital in Rochester, almost 7 weeks post op already!! Preop diet was 24 hours, down 40 lbs total so far. Choose the sleeve over bypass, because I didn't want to worry about malabsorption & no Diabetes or other co-morbidities. bellabill 253 Posted November 26, 2014 @@beachgal I saw the surgeon last week and discussed that the sleeve would be the best option for me cause I take a strong pain reliever and I need that to be absorbed.Ineed it for my severe osteoarthritis in my knees.
