Surgery and wedding 2015

Recommended Posts

I started the beginning process to getting my surgery in the beginning of July. I finally have my initial consultation with the surgeon on October 2. I just got engaged on August 17 of this year. I plan on getting married November 7, 2015. Problem is I am worried that I will not get my surgery in time or not be out far enough and be miserable on my wedding day. I considered getting married before my surgery, but there is a chance that I could lose my health insurance once I get married so I can't do that. This surgery has to come first and it is very important to me. If I want a long healthy life with my fiance then I need this surgery.

Awww congrats on your engagement!! And ur new journey. You have some time till next nov so don't worry too much. What are ur insurance requirements? Mines was six months and I could go back up to 5 yrs using doctors progress notes about my weight loss attempts. So insurances only require 3 months on nut. visits. So call your insurance and find out before your oct appt. So if so you can have your first visit in sept. also talk to your primary doctor so they have a heads up in case u need clearance and a letter of necessity. So hopefully by summer of 2015 you would be sleeved n on ur way into your dream dress!!

I tried calling insurance company and they are clueless every time I call. They read me what is on the internet that I already know which is I need a referral letter. I will meet with the insurance coordinator on day of surgeon appointment and she will tell me what the requirements are.

I don't understand why you would be miserable on your wedding day given that you could be almost a year out. I felt amazing after the first 3 months and at less than 3 months, I didn't feel bad, just not as great as now. Think about all the dress options you'll have.

Ambieambs, I also am getting married but I will do it Jan 31,2015. Just 2 months after my surgery. I do know I won't be eating well but that's ok with me. I'm just hoping I'm up and doing great by then. We will only have my 2 kids and their significant others, 9 grandchildren, down in Gatlinburg, TN.

I'm sure you will be doing fine come Nov 2015, you will have enough time to get yourself together. Good luck on your journey!

There's never a "perfect" time for WLS. But you won't regret it. Go for it. You'll be amazed at how things will fall into place. Congratulations on your happy news!

I have not met with the surgeon yet. The first appointment is in October then I will go from there with insurance requirements and then the nutrition classes and every thing else. My surgery will be no sooner than February or March. There is a chance that it could be June or July and that is what I worry about. I am sure I will be fine on my wedding day, but I tend to worry a lot anyway.

By seven months post op I had lost 100 pounds and felt amazing! I went on to lose 20 pounds more and still feel amazing - lots of energy and pain-free. There's no reason for you to feel miserable a year out, or even after 6 months!

The person who'll be doing your dress-fitting, on the other hand? THAT person will be miserable, working overtime taking it in, and taking it in, and taking it in yet again - to make sure your dress fits by the time your special day arrives! Lol

I plan on having my mom make my dress so that she will be able to make alterations easier as needed. I am hoping that goes smoothly. Plan on doing a test run with cheap fabric for the dress.

I am getting married next fall as well. I think you will most likely be feeling fine by November, even if you have your surgery half way through next year.

Many of the people here do well right out of surgery, and some of us have had difficulties. For the most part, my difficulties wrapped up at 6 weeks, and I am feeling better every day. Thank God.

I think you will have plenty of time to recover, and congrats on your engagement and upcoming wedding!

:D

Having such a special dress made for you by someone you love is wonderful. Congrats, and best of luck with your surgery and your new healthier life. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
