Help! I'm frothing. A lot!

Recommended Posts

Had bypass on July 14th. Tried to start more foods and i would froth after pretty much everything. Then one day, after a few bites, it started and lasted all night. Ended up getting iv to refuel for 3 days. Now im back to Protein Shakes and baby food. How long have you gone through this?

Right after surgery you are living off from stored fat cells, so food is not that important. So long as you get your Protein, fluids and Vitamins in, you are on track. When I started to transition back to foods, I found the process was painful. I didn't experience the level of dumping syndrome that you have experience, but never-the-less it wasn't pleasant. I would recommend that as you introduce foods back into your regime, that you focus on soft foods. I found that Soups and chili went down much easier that harder foods.

I was foaming like a mad dog, everytime I tried to eat. Dietician told me to take smaller bites (the size of a dime) and chew chew chew. One meal should last 20-30 minutes. Another reason for all the foam.....I waited more than four hours between eating and my stomach was filling up with stomach acids. Eat small amounts often.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
