Veterans please HELP...

Recommended Posts

I need advice on Vitamins. My Dr had me taking Bariatric Advantage 2 X per day. I'm 2 months out and almost daily have horrible nausea, gagging, and dry heaving within seconds of swallowing the multi Vitamin. It's not the taste. Something happens when it hits my stomach. Veterans please share with me if you have used another brand and if your labs have been good. Thanks!

I take regular vitamins...Nature Made Mutli Vitamin, I take B12, calcium citrate, vitamin A(mine was a little low) and slow release iron(again, a little low). I do not buy any special bariatric Vitamins. I get whatever brand is on sale. I swallow pills but alway eat something first.

I take Bariatric Advantage and they are a little hard on my stomach when I take them on an empty stomach. I take mine with a meal or shake and I feel fine after.

I took Source of Life liquid Gold - available on Amazon. 9 months post sleeve I am finally back to the big Vitamin. I had a pharmacist friend recommend Source of Life. I added extra Iron, B-12 shots. One bottle lasted about 3 months and I loved the taste. You can see the white bottle online if interested. Best of luck!

I tried the Bariatric Advantage Vitamins and they gagged me also. I kept at them by crushing them and stirring them into applesauce. That's wasn't so bad , but took extra time to prep. At month 3 I switched up to an adult Gummy Vitamin ( I doubled up on it ) . I am almost a year out , and have had 3 blood tests done and each has been perfect. Walgreens and GNC have decent selections. I buy what's on sale now.

I couldn't handle any of the chewables or liquid Vitamins and have been taking the following since surgery:

Daily Journey - A Really Truly Easy to Swallow Multiple Vitamin/mineral Rich in Vitamins, Minerals... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002A8GOHI/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_eAiaub1JNERND

I take 3 small capsules each day. My only problem with them is they smell and taste terrible.

I may try going back to full sized Centrum at some point, as I've not had any problems taking any pills.

I recently switched to eco drink which is a powder you mix with Water. pills hit my stomach like rocks so before this it was gummy vitamins. I think the ecodrink is a better choice and I get it at costco.< /p>

Thanks for all the good advice. I'm just not sure how good they are doing me if I can't keep them down half of the time!

Sounds bad - I know a lot of people like the ecodrink ones though, so that might help. (I didn't like the taste - but that's soooo personal!). I use Trader Joe's chewable ones, and they taste fine to me - I didn't like the Bariatric Advantage ones or the liquid gold though - awful to my taste. You may have to try some out, and remember most places will take back the unused portion if you go in and just tell them it tasted really bad. Worth doing because it's so expensive! Good luck - keep at it, as it's really important to take them in some form.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
