Feeling discoraged july sleever

SOOoo glad to hear this! I felt so good at first and then hit the 3 week stall (that also lasted 3 weeks) that I asked my dr if he maybe just poked holes in me then glued me shut! I, also, wondered if I had been a failure once again or had ruined it for myself already. Now I am ready to get my focus back and start losing again! So many of us have been beaten down emotionally, by ourselves or others, that everything has negative connotations and we tend to think less of ourselves at every turn. Oh, to have back that value of self-worth back that I used to have as a younger, thinner person. Maybe that will be my ultimate goal while I lose the weight and regain my health: to regain a healthy self-esteem.

You've lost 50 pounds! You are well on your way - and that alone should make you feel good about yourself.

Keep it up you're doing great!!!

Today was "Weigh-In Wednesday" (that's what I call my weekly weigh in) and, just like clockwork, 3 WEEK STALL!!! Literally exact same weight as last week (344.2). I planned for this so I am going to do measurements and photos later to remind myself of the NSVs, but man, it really is disheartening. I know it will pass, but it's the first break in momentum post surgery, so it's a little bit of a reality check. I a, so thankful this board is here to have warned me about it!! I would probably be losing my MIND right now if I wasn't prepared!!!

Glad to help! Yeah, it's a bitch to hit that roadblock just when you're just starting to feel human again and building some momentum. My Doc told me that the next major stall, at least for guys, is at around 6 months. But I read a post today from a woman who is stalled at 6 months. Hey, if I can make it until then without another major plateau, I'll take it! Okay, if anyone's interested, here's the reason for the stall. It's pretty fascinating; especially the part about the saber-tooth tiger!

I had a two week stall two weeks after my surgery. It, for lack of a better thing to say, sucked ass. But I just kept plugging at things - following the plan, walking. Doing what needed to be done. Don't fret, these things happen.

Also, I gain at least 5lbs every month due to period Water retention and basically write off the week after my period as fun with Fluid retention. So fear not. It's not going to be a straight line. it might be rolling hills with an overall downward trend.

Hello everyone so I went to the gym two days in a row for 45 min and woke up and practically lost 7 pounds in two nights so the stall passed thank goodness like many have you mentioned I thought I was the one person in the world that the surgery didn't work for, I am slowly learning it is a tool. Cardio is a must. If anyone has the same surgery date as me or want to see what I'm doing or eating or just have questions like I do please send me a private message. Also I have NOT been taking my pills daily is this why my weight loss seems to be going slower than I would have hoped? It's not like I'm purposely trying to ignore my health but the pills make me want to throw up is this normal?

My scale loss has been slow, but like others, due to the exercise I have seen changes is my jean sizes. Certainly love that. I have gone down from 16Ws to 12 petite. Now weigh 186. I am only 5' so I have a ways to go. But it will happen!

My VSG is scheduled for 09/15 so I'm still pre-op but I have been fighting a lifelong battle with weight and most of the combat has been diet and excercise so I figured I'd give you my two cents.

Calorie restricted diets are tough on muscle and given the variety of factors that go into whether you maintain muscle and/or gain lean mass; it is easy to get really bummed out looking at the scale every day (or multiple) and wondering why weight loss has slowed, stopped or reversed.

I have dropped approximately 100 lbs twice in my life and there were definately weird "stalls" during the weight loss... I think it is just your body and metabolism doing things that I your not aware of. You should definately not be a slave to the scale and weigh yourself so much because it sounds like your doing great in terms of fat loss and your body is just doing its thing...

Also, I agree with the less carbs more Protein philosophy along with adding weights in your excercise if you can. It seems like weights tell your body to hold on to some of the muscle even though your calories are low... I'm not an expert but I truly believe that weights and cardio are the way to go if you can do it.

All said, I'll be post op in less than 10 days so I'll put my own advice to the test :)...

I agree with McButterpants, be patient and don't compare yourself to others. Most importantly, do not get discouraged. Most everyone experiences the dreaded stalls which can be frustrating. Just continue to follow your plan as prescribed and you will definitely see the weight come off. I have personally experienced at least 4 stalls since being sleeved on 4/8/14. I believe I am a slow loser but a loser none the less. I am currently 61 lbs lighter in just 5 months (I never could have done that before the sleeve). I went from a size 20 to a size 12 (trying to get to a size 8). As long as I continue to get in my required amounts and more of Protein, Water and exercise, I do not worry about what the scale says.

I was sleeved on 7/14 and I'm still on my 3 week stall....now at 2 months so I definitely feel the frustration. I've got a measuring tape that tells me my measurements are the same (what?!) and a scale that has me hovering +- 2 lbs for so many weeks. it's definitely frustrating but.... life does go on. Just trying to keep sane with the portion sizes and the kinds of things I'm eating and I am trying to keep up with the exercise. I'm in Southern Florida and its hot hot hot. One of my doctors told me I have difficulty regulating my body temperature because of some medication I'm on so I am NOT allowed to do my walking or bike riding pretty much until the weather cools (november?) or after nightfall (which I don't think is too safe) so I've been focusing on doing laps in the pool as many times weekly as I can find an empty lap pool, which is working out to about 3 times a week.

I'm struggling with exercise! I'm walking about a mile a day but know I need some strength training too! What have you been doing? I need help in this area as well!

My surgeon's practice has an exercise consultant who has me doing strength training at home with resistance bands. These are super easy, don't cost much, and it doesn't take a huge long time to do the complete round of reps and sets. This is for once every other day.

Hello all, it's been a while so I just wanted to update my progress. I was sleeved on 7/24 and as of this morning I'm down 61 lbs. Please, send your update July sleevers.

I lost nothing the whole time I was on purees. Your body is adjusting. Keep doing what you're supposed to be doing and it will come off!

Hi all! I was sleeved July 25 and I'm down 60 lbs! I started at 336 and am 276 now! It's pretty unbelievable! I've had another bit of a stall the last week but I'm okay with that, I know that it will start coming off again!

I wonder if we registered out weight loss in %s it might be an eye opener for soom who think their weight loss is slow. They do that on the 'Biggest Loser' TV show. For example, I weighed 226 at the beginning of my journey. I have lost 51 pounds. Some days that seems like a small number compared to what I want to lose but in reality so far I have lost 22.5% of my body weight! Surgery was 6-17 so almost 4 months out. I think the percentages may give a better picture of our success.

I know this sounds crazy but you may need to push more food. Your body will come to a halt and go I to starvation mode. My body did the same thing around the same time you're talking about. So I pushed food to the max every 2 hours, loan behold dropped another 15 lbs in two weeks. People keep saying I'm eating healthy, exercising, but do remember your body needs food. I ate whatever I wanted. Of course I don't like sweet things, but didn't count calories. Because even though I didn't even try I still only ate approx 400 calories a day. Your body needs more to burn more. Try it and see if it works for you. I am 4 months out, and 45lbs down.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
