Surgeon insisting on two seperate procedures

Recommended Posts

So I wanted to inquire if the following has happened to anyone else and if so did it work out alright in the end? I started the process for insurance approval in March 2014, received approval, and my surgery was scheduled for September 18. I went through all the pre op steps to gain approval. I remember talking with my doctor after the endoscopy that I had a hiatal hernia but he will be able to repair that during the surgery. At my last pre op appointment yesterday, my surgeon stopped everything and went back to the pathology report from the endoscopy. He used a lot of medical terms I don't completely understand , but bottom line after looking at it again he doesn't feel it is safe to do the repair at the same time and wants to do it in two separate procedures. So now on September 18 I am scheduled to have a hiatal hernia repair, an endoscopy again 4-6 weeks later, then the surgery if the repair was succesful. I have looked all over the internet and different forums but have not read about arriving at the surgery date this way by other people. So I wanted to reach out and get others input on this. Thanks to anyone who responds to this post. -Shaun

Interesting he wants to do it separately. I didn't have any signs of a hiatal hernia, but did end up having one, and he repaired it during surgery. I even had to sign a consent to the possible hernia repair. Unless the hernia is drastic, I don't see why he would want to do it separately. Perhaps he's just extra cautious?

Call the office tomorrow and have the nurse explain it to you. Write down some of those medical terms so that you can research stuff on your own once you hang up. My guess is that your hernia is moderate to severe and could even be a sliding one, which is a bit more advanced than a typical hiatal hernia repair; they are very common though.

My husband and I, and many people here had the hiatal hernia, had no costly endoscopy either. Hernias were repaired with the sleeve. Can you get a second opinion? I think it is about money with some of these surgeons. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
