Fox-E 27 Posted August 28, 2014 Hi all, Just got home from hospital yesterday after having VSG. Feeling pretty good, moving around well, following post-op diet to a T. I know it's typical to gain a little weight while in the hospital. I gained about 3 lbs. When does the weight loss start?
Bobby46 327 Posted August 28, 2014 Immediately : ) You're only going to be getting a few hundred calories a day for a while. So you can count on that needle on the scale to start moving immediately. Drink as much Water as you can and you will take off that 3lbs pretty fast. I also gained 3lbs while in the hospital, they push the i.v. fluids, it was gone in 2 days time. I lost 11lbs in the first 2 weeks. I'm now out 2 weeks and 3 days and I'm down another 2lbs. Good luck!
mrslb5 333 Posted August 28, 2014 Before you know it the weight will be falling off my first week I dropped 19 pounds so just take it slow follow your doctors rules and watch the pounds melt away!
Forsythia 882 Posted August 28, 2014 I would have loved to only picked up 3 lbs. I gained 12 lbs of fluids in the hospital. Literally overnight I dropped 7 of it though. The first few weeks are usually pretty rapid. Then you might slow down and/or stall out for a bit, but that is the body adjusting. The losses will pick up again once the body adjusts. Marygp836 12 Posted August 29, 2014 I gained one in the hospital but then didn't weigh myself until 7 days after he surgery and I was down 10 lbs.
mi75 1,235 Posted August 29, 2014 chalk it up to the major fluids they pump into you during and after surgery. you will notice a change in a few days. my best advice is stay OFF that scale for at least 10-14 days post op and you will really be amazed once you get on it. i became scale obsessed until i finally learned that this journey is not a sprint, it is a long marathon and my end result is most important...
