Bariatric Vitamins make me sick

Recommended Posts

I have tried Bariatric Advantage capsules and the Celebrate chewable a (a little more tolerable) however both of them make so nauseous. Is this some thing that will pass or should I keep trying different kinds? So many people on here I see buy the chewable ones over the counter. I would try it if it wasn't for the fear my NUT instilled in my head about Vitamin defficiencies down the road and that we HAVE to take bariatric specific Vitamins or we are not getting what we need....... Please anyone share your experience.

I just went to the NUT this morning and he told us to buy a chewable or Gummy Vitamin over the counter and take 2 a day. Is that not normal?

I'm still pre-op, so I don't know how I'll handle it after my surgery, but right now I am taking 3 Vitaleph Multivitamins per day. They are the bariatric brand that's pushed pretty heavily by my surgeon and his staff. Here's a link:

So far I haven't had any issues with them upsetting my stomach or anything. But, again, I'm still pre-op.

Edit: One bottle is 90 capsules, so a one-month supply. They are pretty pricey, but I don't think they're much more than Bariatric Advantage.

My program required me to buy a 3 month supply of Vitamins and Calcium from them. The brand was opurity. They are not terrible.

Are you taking the Vitamins on an empty stomach? I have found that many vitamins make me nauseous if I take them on an empty stomach but I am fine if I take them after eating.

Based on my experience the feeling of nausea will pass. I had a nauseous feeling for about the first month when taking the chewable vitamins. I ended up mixing the Vitamins with Water or Protein Shake to get them down. I too had opurity. Now I look forward to them, very tasty!

Yes I make sure I have eaten before I take it, but they still make me so nauseated.

Thank you... They seem to be about the same as Bariatric Advantage so they probably would make me sick as well. Best wishes for you when you get sleeved! Trust me when I tell you everything so different after surgery. For the first 7 days I even had a heightened sense of smell as if I were pregnant again. So weird

From my findings apparently that is normal for some, but my doctor insists it has to be bariatric Vitamins. They claim they are made different for us to absorb. That we can t absorb the over the counter ones the same and in a long term look we could end up with some kind of Vitamin deficiency. So as tempted as I am to buy the gummy over the counter chewable they have me scared out of my mind not to.

A pharmacist recommended Source of Life liquid Gold. I love the taste (fruity), and one bottle lasted about 3 months. I bought it on Amazon.com. I added some Iron pills later, and I take B-12 shots.

I had that source of life liquid Vitamin . You have to be a very strong willed person to drink it. I'm glad I had it but one week was all I could do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
