I have yet to have my surgery but plan to schedule mine for May 23rd or 25th. I have a question in regards to pre-op / post-op diet. Has anyone tried Isopure Protein Drink while on the pre-op / post-op diet? If so, do you think it helped curb your appetite, hinder your ability to lose weight, etc...? My husband is a health NUT and was telling me Isopure has the MOST Protein in shake form on the market today. Someone on one of the threads was using it but stated it made them gain weight. Two scoops of the chocolate flavor contains 220 calories and 50g of protein.

What are others using to fullfill their protein intake?

Thanks everyone!

Keep in mind two things. Everyone has vastly different tastes. What one likes another gags on. My first true barf (vs. PB) was on IsoPuke at 4 days after surgery. I like Matrix 5.0 but your mileage may vary.

Also, 50gms is not good. You'd want to do half of that, your body can only absorb about 25gms of Protein at a time. The rest you will have to burn or it turns to fat.

WASaBubbleButt is right about only being able to process 25 grams of Protein at one time, plus it's hard on your liver and kidneys if you take in more than your body can utilize at one time. You usually need to wait 2 to 4 hours between the protein, whether in shake or solid form. You need to find the protein source that you like and it can change after surgery, so you'll have to experiment and find out what works with you and your taste buds. Good Luck!

Hi there, I was told that you are from az. Me tooooo:) I am going to Mexico to get banded on the 25th of may. where are you going right now to get fills? how much are you paying? also where in az are you living? I have heard that I need to read your threads because you are so knowledgeable, that is what I need, a little more info on everything, (the stuff that you learn from other banders, info not given by the docs :fish:

My husband is a health nut too and swears by the Isopure. I like the myoplex pre mixed drinks myself (which come with a $5 off coupon on the package). i was going to go to the Vitamin Shoppe and get an assortment of things to try to see what i like and what i can tolerate after surgery.

do you just go to like a GNC to get the myoplex premixed drinks? or do you order them online?

They have them at Walmart and Vitamin Shoppe, they probably have them at GNC but I dont usually shop there. I buy one package, take the coupon off and buy another. They kind of frown on that but its my $5!! which makes my 4 drinks only cost $5. They have several flavors but I prefer the chocolate. They also sell packets of powder.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
