8/29/14 is the Day

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for my lap-band for Friday, I am so excited and a little nervous to be at this turning point in my life. Looking forward to new adventures and can't wait to be on the other side of the surgery part. Glad I found this board - lots of great support and info.

My doctors office said the recovery is quick from the surgery and some people are back to work in a day or two, it all depends on how the individuals body heals. What are some of the experiences that others have had after getting banded... Getting back to work, gym, ect?

I took 2.5 weeks to recover to ensure I was on track with good prep and my new life. Starting the walking routine and ensuring I am drinking my Water. I want this to work. Changing your eating habits and. Lifestyle is exciting and fun. Enjoy the journey!

I work from home so it's not much of a stretch to go to work the following day which I did. Gym workouts were a good 4 weeks out though.

I was banded on a Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday. The hardest part for me was the gas that settled in my mid back. My husband did karate chops in that area and it really did help. Pain wise I only took three of my pain pills. I had conjured up in my mind that it was going to be horrible and it was not bad at all. Yesterday was my first fill and they released me to do any kind of exercise I want. I am 5 weeks post op. Congratulations on making the decision to take control of your health:). Good luck on this new journey:)

Thank you for the input, my surgery went great, I started walking right away so the gas has improved so much. I am off all pain meds although I will probably have Tylenol before bed tonight. It was much better than I worked up in mind what it would be.

I had decided I would be a model patient. Did everything the Doctor and nurses suggested. Hoping that I will have a smooth journey and be able to have many successes

I hope everyone's recovery is going well. I was banded last Friday and went back to work Tuesday. I did great over the weekend, walked, drank my Clear Liquids fine. When I went back to work, I found myself tired and sluggish all week. I started feeling very bloated Wednesday morning and it lasted until last night. Since the bloating started I have had a hard time with taking in enough clear liquids, I have been taking tiny sips of Water, broth, and ensures, but it seems that ice pops have been what I can consume the easiest.

I went back to the gym before work on Thursday and that helped a little in the morning. I feel more relief today and I am going to try to drink an ensure clear and go swimming or something.

I think moving is the key and my office job does not help me in that area. So glad it's the weekend.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
