HELP! serious complications 3 months post op

Recommended Posts

I have been having nausea and, vomiting since 2 weeks post op. I had a stricture that kept coming back and had to be dilated 3 times and I'm only 3months post op. I have been in and out of the hospital several, times as well. I was in the hospital 2 weeks ago for over 2 weeks. I was unable to take anything by mouth. They put a picc line in and started me on TPN (IV nutrients). Thy had to pull my picc line a week later cause it went bad. I was eating a clear/full liquid diet. Now I'm vomiting again and this time I'm having sever abdominal pain as well. I'm unable to keep much down and it all hurts even Water. My surgeon has me on several medications but they aren't helping. He suggested I might have to have a revision done. Has anyone had a b anything like this? Or had a revision? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I'm extremely weak physically and emotionally drained from all this.

I will. I've lost 100lbs in the past 3 months just from not being able to eat. My nutritionist said that nutritionally my blood work has been bad, but I haven't been able to eat much. This past week I've dropped 15lbs. Idk what's going on anymore. I'm having horrible pains all the time.

Oh wow. I am so sorry this is happening to you. I have had something similar happen to me. I will be at 8 weeks on this Wednesday and I have been in the hospital twice when things got stuck, and ended up with Pancreatitis.

I had a stricture that was opened up 2 weeks ago. I had nausea the whole time and was unable to eat or drink anything and the dr told me he may have to admit me back in and place a picc line and possibly put in a feeding tube in my stomach, and revise the surgery.

So yes, it has happened to me. Luckily that endoscopy I had helped and he was able to open up the stricture. I do feel it has closed some and they told me I may have to have it dilated 1-2 more times.

I hope you get to doing better.

Tasha sorry to hear this.

What is your docs plan? I see you had the bypass, what will the revision be to?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
