Need advice on fill

Recommended Posts

I have been struggling for the last 6 months. My OBGYN was changing up my Meds that messed with my hormones and caused bloating which made the band too tight. I got a full cc taken out in May to get some relief. Of course I gained weight after that. I went in July and got 0.6 cc put back in. Then last week I had 0.3cc put in. I feel like I'm perfect now. Like perfect. Here's the problem. I'm flying from Phoenix to Detroit Oct 4. My dr has said you should get Fluid taken out before flying. I don't want to because my insurance sucks and it's $75 each visit for a fill. So I would need to go out to fly then back in when I come back. That's expensive. Is it possible to fly and just stick to liquids and smooshies the first day or two? Detroit is a lower elevation

Sorry to read you were struggling and glad to read you are back to optimal fill level.

I fly often and never ever have a problem with my restriction. I fly long haul flights and never feel the band tighten due to air travel. (It can tighten due to other factors, but air travel has never been one of them for me.)

I'd opt for your plan if I were in your position. (Liquids, Protein Drinks, etc.) You'll know if you are too tight, since you've already experienced that feeling, and you can continue with liquids, or just go back to your band eating if you sense the flying did not affect your band's fill level.

Flying has never affected my restriction. I don't see why anyone would have difficulties as long as they don't eat during the flight?

Honestly I have the mentality of if the band is omptimal DO NOT MESS WITH IT :). About the worst thing that can happen is youll have to do Protein shakes or yogurt for Breakfast until your level is good and you can advance. Take things slow. I honestly doubt it will affect your band for very long. Good luck to you....All things that we face as lap band patients...Most of all dont forget to enjoy your trip!

I'm not in the green yet but I flew to Italy a couple weeks after my first fill. I was advised to stick to liquids during and an hour after the flight. I did that on the way there but truly it was no big deal, and I actually ate a small meal on the flight home.

I fly all the time and have no issues. I have had my band for 10 years. Leave it alone. You'll be just fine!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
