rhayla 53 Posted August 27, 2014 I'm right on the cusp if having a BMI of 40. If they weigh me next Tuesday and I'm under, the ins can deny coverage. I have co-morbidities, but they are not severe enough. I've been weighing myself at home, and as expected, it fluctuates a bit from day to day. Generally I'm where I need to be, but sometimes I'm a little under. Any suggestions for making sure I weigh enough come Tuesday?
KristenLee 60 Posted August 27, 2014 Eat, Eat, Eat!! (I have never been told to do that before)! I was in the same boat and indugled myself! Drink a lot of fluids before appt! Good Luck!
rhayla 53 Posted August 27, 2014 Yeah, I'm trying to eat like a lumberjack, which just seems wrong! I though I might have a very salty meal the night before, for the Water retention. They do a lot of tests that day, so I can't eat after midnight.
#9grammy 274 Posted August 27, 2014 Wear your jeans and tennis shoes, heavy clothing worked for me. I had 3 extra pounds on me from all I wore! lol
snowkitten 371 Posted August 27, 2014 Drink a lot of chicken broth. The salt will make you bloat and hold Water
jennlee1014 9 Posted August 27, 2014 I had the same thing going into my first appointment. I felt it was so wrong, but I ate and ate and ate. I gained 5 pounds to make sure i would have a BMI high enough. It worked! I am being sleeved on 9/
bikrchk 1,313 Posted August 27, 2014 Put a couple of rolls of quarters in your pockets and wear the heaviest jeans you own!
gabrielle2014 38 Posted August 27, 2014 I'm in the same boat for my appt on 9/17. I've been eating a ton of salty fatty foods and for the first time in my life I'm not gaining. Today I started drinking Ensure - ugh. I have met a few people who literally wore ankle weights. That seems so hard core. Also another woman said she held her purse while they weighed her and bent her knees a tad to get her height down. It all feels so wrong but I figure I will easily end up gaining 10 pounds the way I'm going even when I try to eat well. Just a matter of time.
ready2B 263 Posted August 27, 2014 Eating ham always makes me gain a couple of lbs for a few days! I also gain a couple of pounds whenever I am constipated. If you are within just 1-2 pounds, I'd be more inclined to drink a ton of Water, wear heavy clothes, etc rather than eating like crazy. The Water & clothes you can shed easily after weigh-in and not put on extra weight that might be hard to get off again or make you sick.
WhoKnows 288 Posted August 27, 2014 Be warned, they may ask you to take off shoes and jacket, but you can always wear heavy clothes, as the others have said, and also hide some roles of quarters in your bra. Like everyone said, lots of food, lots of Water, and also, low Fiber. You want your body to hang on to everything.
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) I know someone who did this for the final pre-insurance qualification weigh-in ... Drank two 16-ounce bottles of Water just prior to weigh-in = 2 pounds Had 8 half-pound weights stuffed in the pockets of her clothes = 4 pounds Had her husband's large cell phone, her own large cell phone, a digital camera, and her key ring stuffed into her bra = almost 1 pound Wore her heaviest shoes (1 pound each) = 2 pounds Wore two blouses, heavy slacks, her heaviest bra, two pairs of panties (had to put some of those weights in there), heavy jewelry (necklace, watch, fitbit, extra rings, earrings, necklace and a big brooch to pin together the wool shawl she wore atop everything else) = 3 pounds Like I said ... that's what I heard.
