Sept. 8th & 9th Gastric Bypass surgery.

I'm four days post op now, I've been home since Wednesday night. I'm drinking tiny sips of Water all day and night, and I'm sick of these sweet shakes already. I ordered some unflavored Isopure Protein Powder that should be here Sunday and today I'm actually trying a few ounces of strained fat free Soup. I've lost about 15 lbs since beginning the 10 day pre op liquid diet up til today. I'm still sore and have a terrible sore throat when I swallow.

I tried Premier Protein prior to surgery during my sampling phase I thought it was - well kind of nasty had almost a pepto after taste. I am wondering if now it'll taste different? Because I have noticed that things do taste a little different then before.

I am thinking about going for another walk pretty soon we took the "puppy" all 150 pounds of him & our son for a stroll around the block earlier. It's so nice out starting to feel like fall here I just want to walk & enjoy the fact sweat won't be pouring off me! So dehydration won't be knocking at my door just for walking.

I don't get a post op check-up until October 8th for nutrition, the nurse & the surgeon as well. Then December 1st I check in again with nutrition & have a follow up psych to see how I am adjusting! So far I feel happier then I have in a long while, like I am in control of my body.

Anyhow off to enjoy so me time while everyone else naps!!

Isopure has 40 grams of Protein that's what was I first used. Today I'm 14 lbs down. Saw md yesterday, was told to buy pure protein from trader joes it's got 35 grams of protein or buy Premier Protein liquid pre- mixed drinks from costco, also advanced to sugar free Popsicles. I've even given instructions to walk 1 hr 2x per day. I feel fantastic!!!! Just so unbelievable that overnight the weight falls off????!!!

Congrats! 14 pounds is awesome. I wish I had a trader joes near me.

I think the unflavored protein powder will help a lot. I can't drink water... Idk what it is but it makes me feel uncomfortable. I can drink tea and crystal light with no problem. Water has a taste that is like sucking on pennies.

You're not the only one. I bought a whole pack of vanilla over a year ago and it took my forever to finish them. They are way too sweet and they just taste generic.

I am shocked that your doctor wants to wait so long to see you. My doctor wants to see me in a little over a week after surgery.

I just talked to the nurse on the phone. I explained my follow-up apts with my endocrinologist & PCP, what my BP & sugar have been running. Described my wounds, bruising, my bowels, that I had stopped my pain medication, the level of activity I had achieved as of yet. Nothing I had told her made her think I needed to come in sooner. Our facility I think is managed differently then most, it's part private & part hospital.

Oh.... Okay, I can see that.

I have also stopped my pain meds, it actually hurt to drink it.

I went out to lunch with some friends today and had a non-sweetened fruity tea and a cup of chunky veggie Soup with a slice of bread.

I sipped the tea and had her put it in a to-go cup because I knew I couldn't finish it quickly. I sipped the broth from the soup which was really good and a nice change from chicken broth. I had her pack up the leftover soup and the bread and I brought it home to my husband.

We walked around to check out the other shops around and I would say it was a successful outing.

I went into my two week pre-op weighing 311.4 and lost down to 297.8 by the day of surgery. I was very excited for my new journey, but never expected to feel as bad as I did post-op.

Sept 8th 2014 was the day!

I felt terrible once awake. Horrible nausea that nothing would get rid of, vomiting, chest pain, and dizziness...

I hope you all have a better time with this. My chest hurt so bad they called in the cardiologists to run tests! I ended up with round the clock labs being drawn, anti-nausea meds and pain meds being given like clockwork! Nothing seemed to help the chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, stomach spasms, gas etc! I couldn't urinate, couldn't pass gas, nor would my bowels move. I spent 48hrs in tears due to the overwhelming pain. I couldn't even keep down my ice chips on day two! By the 3rd day I started to feel a little better. The first 2 were the worst! The gas that they fill your abdominal cavity up with was a ruthless butch! The gas can't escape, so it just sits there and causes horrible, unimaginable pain. They finally gave me some morphine and Ativan to knock me out, and it was oh so sweet relief too! I was finally able to fall asleep, and ignore the pain even if it was only for a minute or two. On the third day the dizziness was very present, but everything else was clearing up. I actually felt like getting up, showering, and walking the halls by day 3. I wasn't sure how'd I'd feel once they removed the pain pump from my abdomen, but I found out by the end of day 3. Once they removed nearly 12 inches of pump cord from inside my chest cavity I began to feel the numbing sensation wear off. It became all too real that someone took a blade and sliced me 7 times with it. Not just scratching the surface but rearranging my internal organs. By discharge time on day 3 I finally was able to pass gas! I was so bloated, and fluid-logged due to the non-stop IV fluids, medications, antibiotics, etc! I walked out of the hospital weighing 305; I went in at 297.8! I didn't have a bowel movement until day 4, with the aid of a little laxative. I didn't want to risk C.Diff.! Today is day 5 post-op and I've finally gotten the hospital Water weight off! This morning I hit 296.0 on the scale! I'm still very sore, but I couldn't be happier about my new life that is now within reach!

Awe honey I am so sorry that you had so much gas pain:( I am so glad you are feeling better now! It will only get better my nurse as she was giving me the lala juice to wheel me into surgery was telling me to think about buying new clothes;) I too put on Water weight in the hospital but my center warned us about weighing more when we went home because of the number of IV bags they pushed in. Keep us updated on how you progress!!

Nice! A little brave I don't think I would dare eat anything I hadn't made yet! See any stores you'll want to go to once you lose some weight? Just think you'll likely have lost a fairly significant amount around the time everyone is having after Christmas markdown sales so you will be able to splurge on a cashmere sweater for $3!! JCPenny's has a wide range of clothes & awesome sales.

I have no idea how you drank your pain meds you go girl!! The thought makes me feel sick!

My big outing thus far was to go food shopping with my husband, he doesn't do any of that because I handle the bills & budget. He is a tad lost at the grocery store, lol. food wise I have only been able to get 45 grams of Protein in as of yet the shakes sit like lead! I found bouillon powder & make broth that way & have had yogurt. It says we can have refried Beans & apple sauce I don't think I could handle either right now.

Glad you are doing so well!!

I'll have to let you know I'm at my house until Tues. (I take care of my mom with my daughter. She in respice). Most of my product is at my mom's house, because that's where we are at most of the time. When I was drinking it was when I was during my 6 mons. Is the name of the Protein you ordered on Amazon called GENEPRO. I understand you can even sprinkle it on your food.I bought some ready made. I don't see the doctor until the 29th. To get all final details

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
