Sense of smell got stronger!

Recommended Posts

After surgery my senses got stronger and I can smell a funk in chicken and eggs and some other meats..... So I am turned off to those foods even though I am 9weeks out I should be able to have them but that smell is such a turn off!

I feel like I can now taste all the chemicals in the Protein Drinks and they make me sick. It's strange how our bodies now react different to food.< /p>

Yes my sense of smell has increased dramatically! I went outside and keep thinking....what are all of those smells? I was walking and on the sidewalk someone had dropped candy corn it was smashed and melting and had a ton of ants on it and I could smell it. Horribly gross!

I just spoke to my dr yesterday. He said this is common especially in women. He also said the increased sense of smell is a marker for long term success. Its a nice consolation for my husband who can't wear his cologne anymore.

I wondered if it was just me but i see its not. My sense of smell is way stronger than it ever was... and my tastes have changed as well. Ate some squished up baby carrots and loved them and i used to hate carrots. Also tasted fish and didnt gag and used to i gagged everytime lol

Thank God I thought it was just me. Everything smells stronger, I started using some expensive candles I'd saved because they relax me even more now.

OMG!! I thought I would go crazy. Everything drove me crazy. Everything smelled really strong. So far mine has diminished some and everything doesn't smell as strong as it did in the beginning.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
