I'm so new to this and I'm still in the process of getting my testing done. I don't even have a date yet! But I know I have to lose weight before hand and I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

Thanks :)

Some people might disagree with me on this, but I am taking prescription diet pills on the advice of my doctor to jump start things. I've tried repeatedly for years on my own to lose weight and was making absolutely no progress at all. With these, I've lost almost 20 lbs in the past month and a half and hope to keep losing until my surgery. Along with them, I am journaling everything using MyFitnessPal and trying to make a lot better choices. The pills help control my appetite enough that I can do that as well as speed up my metabolism so all my good efforts show results. I would never want to take them long term, not even for more than 3 months, but they've been helpful now.

Edited to add: I would not suggest taking anything over the counter or without total support of your doctor, including herbal stuff that you don't know how it will affect you. This is not a time to risk adding new symptoms that could delay your surgery.

My preop diet for 2 weeks was basically Protein Shakes, totaling between 700 to 800 calories per day. That would be a good start. You could start that any time. I would also try to ween yourself off caffeine if you can. The headache after surgery for me was bad and i attributed it to caffeine withdrawal.

I am making better choices in my eating regime for now. I don't have a date yet either. All I have left is my psych eval..& I am good to go...I don't eat anything 'white' bread, flour, sugar etc. I also eat NO potatos of any kind. Nothing fried, only baked..& Water lots & lots of water, oh! & I also add lemon juice to my water...good luck hon in your loss.

Thank you all so much :) I'm in culinary school so I'm in the kitchen all the time. I bring Snacks and stick to the vegetables and meat. I'm losing so slow! Only three pounds this month but I guess a loss is a loss

Culinary school is a really difficult time to lose weight. I speak from experience. At the CIA I gained a freshman fifty instead of a freshman fifteen! The only people in my class who lost or maintained their weight were the ones who exercised consistently. I was more interested in partying than sweating, and the stress plus food what made me go from simply overweight to seriously obese. I've been fighting to get back on track for the last seven years.

I love school and cooking but the end of class is really overwhelming with all the foods and temptations. I did a mostly liquid diet this weekend and I've lost 2 pounds which I'm happy with

Most programs although want you to lose weight they are more concerned with you being able to make the changes it takes.. eating slowly, chew chew chew, 5 or 6 small planned meals, Protein first, sugar free, no drinking half hour before or after your meals... making these changes now will help you lose and make it much easier after.. keep positive!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
