A litre and a slim fast is way more than I could manage on day 6, are you trying to hard to get liquid in? Chest pains could well be gas, do you have antacid medication? Walking all day, too much exercise too soon?

I found I had slightly off centre pain for a couple of weeks post op, if you are really worried, contact your nurse/surgeon or the hospital and if really worried go to A&E

Just remember to look at the sugar content of slimfast shakes, I think they're pretty high. I don't know if high sugar can cause dumping, but just be careful.

I know what you mean about support from the hospital, I had a similar experience, but nearly all your questions have probably been asked and answered on this site, it's easy to say but it really does get easier, try not to get too stressed about getting everything in, keep hydrated at a level that feels comfortable rather than worrying about the numbers at this point

Check the sugar grams, if it has more than 5 grams of sugar, stay away. Look up the symptoms of dumping, and that could be your problem.. Look for Protein shakes that have around 20g of Protein per shake and less than 5 g of sugar, and low, low carbs.. That might help. I think slimfasts are primarily sugar drinks. Good luck!

Chest pains could be gas. Sip slowly no gulping and walk. A lot! The walking should alleviate the gas pains

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
