So I had my pre-op class to go over the nutrition and basics for after surgery on 8/12, When I got there they asked for a $20 copay which I thought was odd because I was there for a Class. Here it is 2 weeks later I get a statement from the surgeons office for $334!, In which I now owe $118 of. They charged it as a "Office Visit". Did anyone else have to pay for their pro-op class?..Should I call and fight this?

I was told right at the beginning once you have to attend the required "seminars" you had to pay $350 out of pocket for this portion of the program cuz it wasn't covered by insurance. Plus I do pay my normal co pay for other visits with nut etc.

Sounds fishy. Is call and complain and have them tell you why they're billing you?

I have had to pay for every visit, seminar and class I have attended for my surgery. It has never been that high though. They usually just ask for my $20 copay

I never had any required seminars, and the seminar they did offer was free.

I had a 2hr class that just went over nutrition and eating after surgery that was required. Not sure why it was required seeing as the Nutritionist I went to went through all the same information..

The surgeon wasn't even in the class.

The initial seminar was free, But all of the pre-op nutrition classes were not covered according to BCBS. They basically wrote half of the cost off and placed the rest on me. However, my surgeon's office never charged me for a co-pay for nutrition classes. They said that most likely the visits would not be covered by insurance. So I knew that going in that I was going to get a bill.

My psych eval was covered by BCBS. I only had to pay my regular $30 co-pay for that. But everything else hit my flexible spending card hard.

I do not remember if I had to pay a copay for that class or not but I was not charged for it other than that if I did. I think you should have been informed if you were going to be charged. Especially if it was not a one on one class? There were three of us when I went to mine. We were all scheduled for the same surgery date.

@Sophieschoice

It was a class of about 15people, I was aloud to bring a friend with me for support (I brought 3). Definitely not a one on one, It was an class they require all patients to take before the surgery I just assumed it was part of everything else.l I was never told otherwise.

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
