How long did you stay on liquids post op? Did soft food slow your weight loss down?

Recommended Posts

Just curious if anyone had just stayed on liquids + Vitamins for more than the first 2 weeks post op.

As well - did eating soft foods slow down your weight loss??

I totally love the drinks and since I'm never hungry - they are quite convenient. (this must be what they mean by the honeymoon stage)

Not sure if you know of this brand ...they are from this company called, Health Wise!!! I too could not deal with the crap from GNC but these are all 0-2 carbs and usually 17-20 gr of Protein, and around 60-100 calories each. They are awesome.

I called the company while I was in the hospital because my hospital had ready made drinks like you get in a Vitamin Water bottle - but they only sell whole sale to hospitals and clinics... but I did call, not realizing my own dr. office would be sending me home with a 2 week supply of the same brand, just in the powder form.

The other AMAZING drink I love is Syntrax nectar Sweets - chocolate Truffle - a scoop is 100 calories, 23 gr of Protein and I blend it with 1 1/2 cups of unsweetened vanilla almond milk. So filling, rich, smooth - doesn't taste like the GNC "Protein shakes." Plus - the GNC - I can't find anything with as low of calorie count with as high of protein as these 2 brands.

As much as I would NEVER recommend anyone to my surgeon's office for any reason, Dr. Cirangle (who is an absolute horrifying individual) - his online estore is the cheapest I've been able to find though.

Look under health wise drinks: http://www.lapsf.com/estore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=192

I personally love the hot chocolate and orange pineapple, and wild berry. And the Tomato Soup. It's not even close to Tomato Soup, but I love everything tomato and it's a nice hot option away from the broth and the "sweetness" of the juice and sweet chocolate mixes.

Hope that helps!

My surgeon required at least 3 weeks, with an option of 4 weeks on liquids (shakes). As much as I hate the shakes, I'm scared to move on to soft foods. I'm three weeks and two days out from surgery, and just today I tried some cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. I'm less concerned about weight slowing down (science+math on calories in/out have me covered there) and more worried about not getting ENOUGH calories. With the cottage cheese and yogurt, I can't manage more than 1/4 cup, so I have no clue how I'll get to 600 calories minimum even with one shake supplement.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
